Why did you go with a CVO bike over stock Street Glide?
« on: April 20, 2010, 03:38:09 PM »

Just want to know why you spent the extra 10,000 more to have the CVO? I know we all could buy a Street Glide for 10,000 less and put another 10,000 into it to make it your own, but I am just curious what you guys think. It is hard to make the jump over a regular one to the CVO but I know when I am on the CVO I will be much happier in the end as if I go with a regular one I would have to put pipes and chrome and so much more. I think the CVO is money well spent if you add it all up I think we would still be ahead of the game especially with the 110 motor that alone would cost what 5,000 to do? Thanks for any of your guys input. I hope to get on the bike soon the thinking is killing me.

It was an easy decision for me. I like paint. To put any of the factory custom paint jobs on a FLHX is $5,500 alone. Add the big motor, all the chrome, ABS, cruise, etc., etc. and the CVO is a value. Not inexpensive, but a good value nevertheless.

I've spent more than I had hoped in getting my SR where I want it (and have a ways to go), but am very happy with my bike. Had an '02 FLHRSEI (Purple/Silver Flames) and traded it in on the SESG.

Did I mention it looks great?

For example,  (and the number may change depending on the style or level of bike you select)

If you buy a stock NON CVO bike and it cost X. (use $22K as a base)
And you buy a CVO bike similar to the NON CVO bikes and it cost X + $10K.  (so the CVO cost is $32K)
To get the NON CVO bike up to CVO specs including paint, you have to spend $15K. (then you have invested $37K in the non CVO bike)
To get the CVO bike where you can call it yours and you are happy with it, you spend $5K. (so now you have 37K in the CVO bike)
You ride both for a year and decide to get into boats or whatever and sell both bikes.
You will then find out that,
The NON CVO bike has a value of $19K, if your lucky. (then you figure out you have just lost $18K for a 1 year ownership experience)
The CVO bike has a value of $30K. (then you figure out you have just lost $7K for a 1 year experience)

So, moral of the story is, Buy a CVO bike and save $11,00.00 in 1 year!

SBB could not have said it better.  Also:  If the non CVO is ever damaged or stolen, the insurance value is far less thus resulting in a much greater loss.

Screamin Eagle gets gets more tail than non Screamin Eagle.  It's a pretty simple decision after that. I don't know what that money stuff is that SBB was talking about.

....and now I learn I saved $11,000 ......thanks SBB  :2vrolijk_21:

For me it was the paint, 110 motor and all the chrome upgrades. With upgrading a standard bike, you often loose at the selling time. CVO's have their higher book values.

When you walk into the dealer it doesn't matter how many stock bikes are sitting there if there is one CVO in the crowd the others just seem to dissappear.   Plus I'm a CHROMEAHOLIC !!!!!

Was kinda like when they asked Sir Edmond Hillary why he climbed Mt. Everest...

"because it was there"

Had been considering a new ride for a while. Stopped into a dealership in VA Beach while on a road trip and there it was on the floor. A Spiced Rum beauty. Wife said go for it. Made the deal and picked up the following week.

No regrets at all!

Thanks guys ya I have been up all night just looking around at what you guys have or recommend. I was told from a good friend that works in the parts department at HD dealer I should put on Bassani or D&D or the V&H power duals/Hi output slip on. I was a big Thunder Header fan had them on al other bikes and he told me not to do it this time it is the wrong pipe size for the 110. I shure love the sound of the TH but now i need to figure something out soon.

Hawg how is the V&H you like them? How is the sound any sound clips? Thanks

devoinbk, I like the D&D but the ghost pipe that dose nothing but fill the hole i just don't know about that. Is is just a pipe that sits there for looks only? or dose it cross over under the frame and work? Thanks

I run with Thunderheader for years on many different bikes......the best exhaust out there.  Although I believe that's a part of the reason that I'm having trouble hearing certain tones now, at 59. :nixweiss:

D&D Fat Cat is probably the exhuast that would be closest to the Thunderheader.  Not what I'm running, just sayin that's probably closest to Thunderheader. :nixweiss:

Thanks
This video is very close to the sound

Don't most women buy shoes on color and bling alone? Why can't we do the same with CVO colors?

I had a 2009 Standard Street Glide before getting the CVO.  Both are great bikes, but the CVO is so unique and the 110 Motor is terrific after I put V&H pipes and Stage one kit on it.  The extra chrome and hand painting is really nice on the CVO.  I certainally get more remarks about the CVO when I travel.

Among many other reasons it was simple math. When its time to trade or resell the NADA value on a CVO is higher because of all the things on it when you bought it!

I've gone the "Make it your own route" before and more than once in the end all that stuff we add and love is worth 10 to 20 cents on the dollar over book trade in value.

I attend the bike auctions regularly and the CVO's always command the highest percentage of the original MSRP.

When buying one of my criteria is how much of what I spend now will come back to me when I exit ownership. CVO book values made it a no brainer
