Quit our jobs, pay off all our debts. I have a coworker who lost her home in the Katrina hurricane and she and her family are still displaced, so I would give her $150,000. A cool M for my Dad and my husband's Mom. Probably one for his and my brother too. There are a couple of other family members and some friends we'd love to give a humble helping hand to - no fortune, just a grub stake. Then we'd see a financial advisor and have them set up the accounting system that would provide us a comfortable living for the remainder of our days, to include a plan to care for us in our more fragile years. The remaining monies we'd like to set up housing - real housing for the returning vets from current and possible future wars, that are injured and need accomodations while they are getting hospital care, and their families that are dispalced awaiting their family members to be rehabilitated. I figure that would exhaust any remaining money quick enough. The charity would give us something to pour time and hearts into - we'd be so happy to help out here. We could ride our bikes whenever we wanted to, where we want to.
The story we heard on the news was that this poor family has been bankrupt twice, they live in a humble mobile home, they found out over the weekend that they have more needy family members then they ever knew they had. I am afraid life has been so hard for them they don't understand what they have. If they don't get a good finacial advisor, I am sure their money will not last long. Too bad, cause they could live very well the remainder of their years.
