Sad situation for all involved. The article doesn't spell out the facts....was she parked on the shoulder of the highway or was she parked in the middle of the highway? Was she already stopped and the bike rider just wasn't paying attention.....or is it possible he came over a blind hill or around a blind curve and she was in the middle of the road.

Like I said, just sad situation all the way around. But it does make me curious about the facts of the situation.

I agree with JCZ. Sounds like it wasn't the best move on her part, but the punishment seems quite severe.

considering she could have gotten life, the punishment was actually very lenient. in other reports on this, she was parked in the middle of the lane, with her door open. some discrepancy on whether she even had her hazards on.

Bullchit...she should have gotten more. If it were my loved ones dead over some damn ducks I wouldn't know what I would do. Stopping in the middle of the road is just ridiculous and uncalled for. Hell when was the last time you saw a dead duck in the middle of the road...they would have gotten out of the way just fine on their own.
Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know we should have our vehicles under control at all times. But this is how some people think...with their heads up their ass...putting the lives of animals above the life of a human. Shes lucky she did not get killed also...I think she got off pretty easy.

The really sad thing here is the loss of life. Drivers nowadays ( I'm 38 ) just don't think! Our cars just about drive them selves anti this auto that etc. when I started to drive I didn't have power anything, oh and 4 wheel drums! If cars were like this still you would see less crashes because you have to pay attention to drive them.
She should have gotten at least 5-10 years

Having read the 2nd article that was posted, I agree. She pulled over and stopped in the lane (at least partially), which is extremely foolish and dangerous.
Last summer I was on my bike going about 60mph in the right lane of a two lane highway. I went around a blind curve and a NY State Trooper was stopped in the right lane, giving someone a ticket. He could have very easily pulled off the road onto the grass. If I wasn't paying attention I wouldn't be writing this right now.

very sad ... what she did was reckless, very bad judgment .. two people lost their lives ... countless others lives are and will be negatively impacted for ever ... This young woman will live with the consequences of her actions for the rest of her life regardless of the leniency of the sentence. my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost loved ones. I hope that at the very least those that hear of this tragedy will react in a more appropriate way in similar circumstances.

yes, we've all done stupid things. but hopefully, the consequences from our actions didn't result in death or serious bodily injury. in other words, we got lucky. but just because we've all done it, doesn't mean that the consequences shouldn't be appropriate to the outcome.

all sorts of consequences for these actions, do not really know what the appropriate consequences are. that I am sure is not for me to say or decide. I know I do feel regret for all parties involved!

we have a very left wing Liberal justice system in Canada. Murderers are let out of jail and or given very light sentences from the get go. It is a shame, and allot of Canadians are pissed at most of the verdicts. I hope the family of the deceased sews her ass off now that she is guilty and makes sure she never has a dime to her name. We have to do this as the justice system up here fails us every time. I am pretty pissed about this.

I tend to agree but my issue is with the money it takes to keep morons like this up in prison. Typical of some of the green freaks that place a higher value on animal life than humans. I'd serve her roast duck every day in prison.
