Tour pak detatch
« on: October 28, 2018, 07:21:17 AM »

Hello thinking about removing my tour pak on my
17 cvo ultra.   Any info to help would be much appreciated
Thinking about doing it myself.   Dealership wants big
Money to do it.   My turn signals are in my tour pak
Really don’t want to stick them on my bags.   Is this
A job for a average guy??  Thanks again for any help..

Suggest looking at Custom Dynamics for turn signal LED strips on the filler strips between saddlebags & rear fender.

Tour pack quick disconnect on a 2017 - have not done that one.  Had it done on my 2007 CVO Ultra.  Needed antenna relocators, quick disconnects for wiring to tour pack speakers, controls, & tour pack lights.  Somebody else here can offer more help here, I had the dealer do mine since it was a very involved process & it was $$$.

I just had this done to my 2015 CVO by my dealer in September. They moved my license plate down below my taillight and put the turning signals in my filler strips. I also bought a new seat to use when I take off the tour pack. Looks awesome IMO. Totally changes the way the bike rides. I feel like I have the best of both worlds now.

What seat, sissy bar and pad did you use?

I had a great service guy help me. I got a low profile solo seat and a low profile pillion. Both have tan stitching. The sissy bar is a standard detachable and the backrest is a short pad. Part #52000248 and #52400140 are the two seats. #52627-09A is the backrest and #51579-05A is the pad. Hope this helps.

Made my 2015 RGU detachable too.  Decided to move the am/fm antenna to hidden in fairing and just cb on lower mount.  Since 2015's had fender turn signals I did not need the additional lights.  Amazing how much lighter the bike feels taking over 60 lbs off the back.  I keep it off except when my wife rides, she likes the wrap around backrest of the tour pack.

Can I ask which license plate frame that is?

It's from Drag Specialist - HOTOP FL LIC PLATE MOUNT. We were able to use this plate because we moved the turning signals into the filler strips. Much sleeker look!

Hi Jimbob,
I'm new to the CVO forum and am planning to do very same job (already 2nd time) on my new '18 Ultra CVO. if you did know by now there's a conversion kit that address most if not all the 'relocation' items off the tour pak, i.e. Antenna, Plate, Blinkers, etc.. I purchased the kit (back when I owned my '14 FLHTK) from Boardtracker it was the lowest price then. here's the link:
http://www.boardtrackerharleyonline.com/search?searchwords=tour-pak+conversion+kit&searchsku=&search_4920=
On the regular HD forum there're quite a few write ups for this procedure and it took me about 6 hours to complete. in order to complete the 'SG like' look I bought SG seat, Sissy bar and luggage rack and lowered the bike with OEM SG shocks too. This time, since I have upgraded to CVO the Kit details already warns you to buy extra harness (only needed for the Ultra Limited Cvo, which i think you own?), and myself too.. But, I was not totally clear why this items is needed or not it costs about $136, so it is not cheap. I posted a question on one of the threads addressing this issue and have not received any answer yet.
Once thing for sure once you take the TP off, the Ultra seat must be changed, it just don't look nice w/o the TP surrounding it (IMO). Not sure if you're a Chrome or Black type, i also noticed some parts fr the Black kit comes with Chrome piece, i wonder why..
If any of the folks like to share thoughts/ideas about this strange harness p/n 69200949A - If it's needed or not? it'd be great to hear from you guys.

The need of the wiring harness in question has to do with the saddlebag lights that come with the kit. If you order the lights separately you can order them for the CVO Limited and it will come with the correct harness. When ordering the kit it comes with the harness for non-CVO application therefore you have to order the harness separately. If you already have the lights on your saddlebags you should have the correct harness and not need an to order the additional harness.
