You are not alone trust me. ;D At least this way you get to see where your money is going, not as if we are smoking, drinking, pissing it away.

BTW - My accessory worksheet shows I've already spent $7,500 out of the $12,500 of stuff on the list. [smiley=nervous.gif]

The new GPS 2820 came today...there's a V.8 software now.  Been playing with it since I got home....nothing like new toys [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]  Now if my motorcycle mounting kit will just get here Friday, I'm good to go.  Heading up to NC this weekend via Smokey Mountain HD in Maryville, TN, then over to Sylva, NC and a cabin in the woods for 3 nights.  Smokey Mtn HD is having a 4th of July kickoff party Saturday, if anyone's in the area. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  It's the GF's Birthday, and there's some leather outfit she wants at the dealer up there...hunted the damn thing down...can't live without it, so I guess I'll be purchasing it for her b'day...at least I won't be guessing what she wants, and I'll get some benefit from the purchase   :o ;)

Gonna try and meet up with Garznhogs, if possible....he's already in the area.

That's the ticket. "When GF/Wife is happy everybody is happy." ;) Have a good safe trip this weekend. Looks like the rain is finally going to head away from the east coast. I may try to get some riding in this weekend also after I finish doing yard work. Sun came out today and I swear I can hear the grass growing. :o [smiley=nervous.gif]

We're sucking wind down here with the rain...been really dry, but more ridin' time  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]  I've threatened to turn some goats loose in the yard, they'd take care of the yard work  ;D  Keepin' the woman happy is up there high on the priority list...then, everybody is a happy camper  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Will try out the new Garmin this weekend, take a lot of pics, then post next week.  Hopefully, the weather will hold.  Get some riding in this weekend, Dood, and be safe!

I've used mine on one trip of 1100 miles, and it did a great job.  Easy to operate, create routes on the fly, etc.  Scrren is visible in all but bright light coming from directly over your shoulder, then it's a little dim, but still viewable.  I can also see the MP3 function being something I will enjoy, though haven't used it as yet.  Bluetooth use will be dependent on what kind of phone you have, earpiece, etc.  It comes with a mic, but I dont think it would be very usable on the bike unless you're stopped or going slow.  I'm still playing around with mine.

Sounds like what I need. Not for navigation, but for O C D! No, really, I get lost in my driveway. Gotta check it out.
Even with that fancypants GPS, we couldn't find each other in the mountains, eh?!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Garz...if you're a gadget freak, you'll love it, man!!   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  One of the coolest features is the "find" functions...wherever you are, you can pull up a menu for gas stations, food, hotels...the food thing even has different types of cuisine to choose from, and then it lists them in order of distance from your present location...push a button on the touch screen to "go there" and it draws you a map, tells you what to do, and off you go.  Of course, not all places are listed, but it's a handy little thing.  Of course, it's got a woman's voice talking to you, but you can shut her up if you want  ;)  I thought Suzanne was talking to me when I was pulling up to an intersection, but it was the GPS babe...hit the PTT button and asked Suzanne if she said anything..she said "no"...I said "oh, it must have been the other bi@ch" (just kidding of course)...I got a good natured thump on the helmet for that one.   ;D ;D :o

I also like the tracking function.

I'm going to play around with the Bluetooth and feeding it all into the radio this weekend or next, depending on when my cables and power supply cords get here.

Where'd you find the newer software?  Mine showed up with V.6.11 and I would like to get rid of the marbles in her mouth....  I din't find any new software for it on the Garmin web site...

Cool...mine came shipped with it (the CD), and it was loaded on the GPS too.  I thought there was going to be an issue with the unlock code, but it's letting me use it...must have gotten the code out of the GPS...

I use the laptop to do my routes, then download to the unit...so having the right CD is important.

Don't understand why they would ship a new one without the new software...

I know this may sound silly but I am new to the concept of GPS [smiley=nixweiss.gif].  Having watched the guy's use theirs while in Cripple Creek I am sold on buying one so I am watching these threads.

If I go to Costco and buy the Garmin 2820, where do I get the kit to mount it on my bike?

I must admit I have a serious case of OCD. Not having seen these in action in person, but reading reviews and considering the endless functions that now can be performed by these (MP3 players, etc) I too am considering this option. Have to add this to wish list and prioritize it on the list.

Now I just have to work on that male ego thing that always says, "I'm not lost, this is just a new way of going". Heh, now that I think about with this device that statement will become truth. ;D

Kerry there's not so much any particular "kit" as there seems to be a few different collections of parts.  Will of course depend on which model of GPS you finally decide on.  If you're considering the Garmin 26XX/27XX/28XX series there are several different mounting options that will vary in cost, suspension type and ease of removal and installation from the bike.  It can be dead simple and pretty cheap (that's what I did) or a bit more complex, fancier looking and expensive.  Probably a good course of action is to find the unit you're sure you're going to like first.  Then make sure there's a mount that satisifies you for it.  Then open the wallet.

Kerry,

Go on to GPSCentral.ca, and go to accessoreis there are all sots of mounts check out RAM & Touratech.

The Garmin Motorcycle Mount Kit would be MOTORCYCEL MOUNT KIT STREETPILOT 2610, this fits the 2730 and 2820 etc.

This kit has the wiring kit so can hard wire to the electrical of the bike, and a mount that accepts the GPS Unit and is lockable with a special tool. You then mount this sysyem to a Ram or Touratec handle bar system to you handlebars. I noticed some posts on various models, Black and Chrome.

Kerry,  Take a look at the Techmount system for the handlebar mount...if you check out the thread on the 2720....103 got that mount, and I got it for mine too.  If you order it with the AMPs hole pattern on the chrome plate, the Garmin motorcycle cradle will work out perfectly.  It's not as easy to remove the whole thing as is the RAM, but the whole thing is high quality CHROME, and looks fine on the bike permanently, IMO.  Don't bother with the Garmin power cord that comes with it, there is a better option, in my opinion....I will post the part number and source for the cord I ordered and just received...you have the option of powering it up all the time, or putting a cigarete lighter connection on the end to make the cord removable.  The Garmin cord comes with an additional plug for audio out, but it requires some adaptation to plug into the AUX on the bike's radio.  If you get the 2820, there is an audio out on the side of the GPS unit...I have a cord coming for that as well and will post when I get everything hooked up the way I want it.

They are handy things to have on hand...like Dood said, you don't get lost, just find new ways of getting there if you get off course.

Thanks for the advice everyone [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].  I am making a list of items for the mount.  I was thinking that maybe I would just purchase the unit and let my wife hold on to it and she can tell me when to turn instead of the voice that comes with it :o

Is anyone using the XM Radio option on these yet?  How does that work in combination with the Blue Tooth headset?  Does the radio get cut off when you get a call or the unit is giving verbal directons? I've done some reading online and they talk about a blue tooth issue but not sure what they are talking about.  I need to find the article agaiin.

I have a spare Garmin harness and bracket for the 2820 sitting on my desk at home.  ( I couldn't wait for the one I mail ordered and went down to the BMW dealer and bought one from them while I was waiting.)  Any body want it?
