Garage door receiver install and programming
« on: July 29, 2006, 01:06:48 AM »

I have two questions hopefully someone can help me out with regarding the HD garage door receiver:

1. Does the HD garage door receiver have to be hard wired to my opener? Am I SOL if my opener has wireless wall openers?

2. How do you program the receiver to the bikes transmitter.

My 07 CVO did not have any documentation on the garage door opener so I am somewhat lost. I don't think it will work with my Wayne Dalton I Drive opener which has no wires running to it but I figured I would ask.

Program before install...use an extension cord, sit on the bike...hold the receiver in hand (plugged into the extension cord plugged into wall)...turn on ignition, press and hold button on receiver....flip lights from high to lo and for good measure back to high...release button on receiver.

Get ladder, plug receiver into same outlet as the opener (I actually use an extension cord so it is near the front widows above the garage)...on the back of the opener should be the screws for hard wire...connect the receiver wires (after plugging into receiver) to two of them...get off ladder get back on bike...turn ignition on...flip high to lo to high...OHGD should open or close.

copout,

The instructions should be in your regular owner's manual.  If not, the attached pdf file is from mine - should be the same.

As for the wiring, the receiver does have to be hard wired either to the opener or wall remote.  With the wireless system Wayne Dalton uses, the wall control has no wires, but I would think there would have to be a way to wire it at the opener itself.  Looked on their website, and they really don't address this issue or show any terminals for a hard wire installation.  Of course, where there is a will there always is a way.  Do you have the wiring diagram for the opener with the installation manual?

If you have a Wayne Dalton I drive look on the right side of the opener where the photo eye wires connect. Hook one wire up to the terminal marked PB and the other wire to the common terminal. It will work like magic.

Agreed  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  FYI, mine stopped working after the shop pulled the fairing and after they checked it out I had to redo the set up w/ the wall unit. Don't know if something got umplugged or what but no go. Redid the hold the button in thing, etc. and all's right w/ the world again.

I have a harley door opener and had two bikes programed in to one receiver. I sold one of the bikes and left the transmitter on the bike. How do I clear the receiver so that the bike I sold can't open my garage door. I unpluged the receiver and it still retained the code I also held the receiver button in for a period of time to see if it would clear the codes. The bike I sold still opens the door???  :'(

This normally takes about 5 minutes to program and wire. I just hooked the receiver wire to the garage door opener where the main wires run into the opener. Then I had my wife turn on the ignition, and flip the light switch while I stood on the ladder and pushed in and held the receiver button until it flashed twice. Once that is done, it is programmed. :)
