04 seeg front suspension and front brakes change out?
« on: February 19, 2007, 11:41:45 PM »

Ok gang,  here goes.  I have a great friend who has an 04 blue seeg , she rides all the time and is a great rider.  She has emailed me and asked me to look here to see if any one has changed out the front suspension and or front brakes to see what is what . She says the faster you go, the faster you need to stop. The high speed bouncing is unnerving to her.   Any one have any suggestions???

thanks kel   :apple: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Front suspension upgrades might happen in steps or stages.  First option is just going to a heavier fork oil.  Using the SE fork oil or other heavier oil has made a noticable difference for many here.

Next step would be going to better springs.  The Progressive kits have a good rep.  After that would be springs and emulators.  After that would be conversion to a full cartridge system.  All the former options are parts you can buy just about anywhere.  The latter will likely require sending forks here: www.traxxion.com .

Brakes can be considered in a few steps also.  Just changing to Lyndall or DP pads makes a tremendous difference over the stock pads.  It's a surprising difference for such little cost and effort.  After that are better calipers and true full floaters (larger the better).  Sources are mftrs such as Brembo, Performance Machine and others.

I don't say this often but Don nailed it perfectly!  ;D  I'm running Progressive 440s in the rear and 15w fork oil and the bike handles so much better than stock that I'm not planning to do anything else suspension wise.  As for the brakes, again I agree 100% with Don.  I'm running the Lyndall pads front and rear and it's a lot better than stock.

Don, seems like there was a thread on the Traxxion system, but I didn't find it.  Do we have anyone that has this on a SEUC or SEEG?

Seems like an ultimate since it is adjustable and set up for the proper rider weight.  Since my "milk dud" is still down for the tank repaint, it may be a good time to ship the forks off to Traxxion.  Any thoughts?  Rog

Rog...here's the link to the thread:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php/topic,10136.0.html

I have talked to them (traxxion) about this system, and there is no doubt that it is an excellent set up for our bikes.  They will set it up to whatever height you want, and according to your riding style and weight.  While it is adjustable, it would not be an easy thing to adjust on our bikes, so it would probably end up being a set it and forget it type thing.  They are very friendly people...I am strongly considering riding my bike over to their shop one day and having them do this, but I've got to figure out whether I want wheels, cams, or suspension first.... ;)

Rog, the thread TC linked was one I'd started after a buddy here with a Road King got their cartidge kit.  I got to ride that bike a bit after changing the forks for him.  It is, without doubt or equivocation, the best suspension I've ever felt under the nose of a touring bike.  I just wan't sure it was so much better to justify 1200 bucks or so when compared against a good set of springs and emulators for less than half that.

After having had a couple weeks or so to think about since that day, I'm still up in the air too.....

C'mon Rog, there's not supposed to be anything rational or consistent about this stuff.  (is there  :nixweiss: )

I am going to be doing tires and brakes soon, I guess I might as well throw in the fork oil. Will the dealer have the upgraded pads?

Some may, you just need to call ahead of time and make sure whether your dealer does.

Yea, even if you don't get a discount, dealer will usually charge more. My experience is the dealer is the last place I go!!   :soapbox:
