Title: Help - Dealer says D&D FatCats will not fit!
Post by: Johnny on May 23, 2008, 12:50:25 AM
Have bike in for 1K service and install of AC, SERT, Pipes and other goodies.  Specified D&D FatCats 2 into 1 but dealer called today and says will not fit '08SEUC??  I know I have seen these on a number of 08's here on the board and would like to know if you had any fitment issues.  Dealer says not enough clearence at brake pedal and master cylinder??  Says they called D&D and they said they were aware of problem but dont have solution and suggested a little back yard engineering by clipping heat shields or grinding down billett brake pedal.  Dealer is going to try stock pedal which they say has more cleareance but boy I do not like the look of it compared to the CVO version.

Has anyone with the D&D's on an '08 SEUltra had this problem?  If so how did you resolve?  Very much appreciate your imput!

Had the fatcats on my 08 SEUC. But i did have to knotch the heatshield for brake pedal clearance thou. Other than that they fit fine.

I have D&D Fat Cats 2-1 on my 2008 Anny and the mechanic I used did hot have to clearance anything. He told me there is a "sweet spot" for these types of exhaust and that there is very little clearance outside it.

Get your bike out of there!   :o

If they can't mount an exhaust, do you really want them working on it at all.   :(

Gaaaaa!

No problem mounting mine (08 SEUC). As stated there is a "sweet spot" where they'll slip in w/ a little finnesse.

Question for you guys, how much heat do you get off those pipes? Those fat cats sure look sweet! :2vrolijk_21:

The Road Glide with duals was hot.  Very hot.  The change to FatCats and a good tune made it much much MUCH better.  Heat no issue at all in any kind of normal use.  The red bike is the same.  The difference before/after on the Road Glide though was really dramatic.

Also might try an aftermarket brake pedal.  I have an '07 and don't know what difference there may be but with my E-Z brake pedal I have a huge amount of clearance.

I have a set of Fat Cats in my garage that are going on the 06 CUSE this weekend. I had a fitment problem with the Freedom TD's I'm taking off. The solution was a Kuriakyn brake arm. It looks just like the slotted arm on the 06 but has a little different angle. It's lighter and I think nicer than the HD part. I plan to leave the Kury arm on the bike with the Fat Cats even if the stock arm would work. You might want to look into that. I can't make comparissons between the 06 and 08 but I'm sure someone here can jump in with that.

Baggerdave,

No I did not have to change my AC cover. Just do not like the generic football.

No biggie, I just thought I was going to have to change it for the SE AC but didn't have to after all.

Slightly off topic but I put my Fat Cats on the 06 CUSE yesterday. Very easy install and a perfect fit. I was surprised how easy it was compared to the true dual installation. I removed the oil filler spout to mount the bracket and I removed the rear bolt on the right foot board so it would swing down out of the way. The rest was as straight forward as it could be. The bike was up on a bike jack.

Thanks everyone for the great comments, I forwared them to the dealer and have not yet heard back but I am hoping with the change of brake pedal or someother adjustment the fat cats can be installed.  Appreciate your help!

Finally got the bike back from the dealer with the fat cats installed but they had to use the stock brake pedal to get enough clearence for the pipes.  Put a couple of hundred miles on Sat and really enjoyed the pipes and performance of the bike - much improved over stock!  They are a little louder than I would have liked but over all very satisfied.  I suspect that the dealer did not install the quiet baffel (which I specifically asked for).  These are great pipes.

Too bad they couldn't find the "spot".  Mine did, and they sure look/sound/are great!  And they are LOUD, even with the quiet baffle.  At equilibrium speed they aren't too bad, can even still hear most of the stock radio. When I get on it it's a loud bark.  Pretty handy to get the cagers to look.  Never thought it would really work, but it does.

The Quiet baffle is LOUD!

10-4 on that!

It's so loud that I took my FatCat off after 3 days, and my build is mild. I'm back to a "Y" Pipe with FullSac mufflers.

I have the fat cat system on mine with the quiet baffle and ghost pipe, sounds great not to loud, considering the medium baffle.  If anyone thinks this is too loud, they should consider a goldwing, or a sewing machine.  :D.  The top of my brake peddle did touch, but a slight grind where it does not show made all the difference.

Before my Fat Cats with the quiet baffle only other exhaust I'd run was the SE pro-performance slip-on - 65115-98B, I think is the p/n.  The one's the moco discontinued a couple years back.  Anyway I think my '06 melon with these muffs was definitely louder than my '07 jester with the D&Ds.  Not nearly as loud to my ears as Rinehart TDs.  Only thing done to either bike was the muffs, a/c & sert tune.

I had Rineharts on (for a very short time) right before the FatCats.  That immediate before and after comparision was certainly much much louder for the Rineharts.  I didn't like them at all (for a few reasons actually, but the sound was no winner).

A slightly unexpected thing about the FatCats with quiet baffles now in side by side comparison on the SEEG and the SERG.  They are noticably louder on the SEEG.

Granted the SERG is a stock 95" with nothing changed and OE compression.  The SEEG is about 10.25:1 and at 107".  So some difference in at least resonance was expected.  The difference is just more noticable and of greater volume (both kinds) than I expected.

Both are good though.  In fact on the SERG it's downright quiet.
