D& D Fat cats install
« on: April 08, 2006, 09:20:59 PM »

Put my new Fat cats with ghost pipe on today, they sound great and they look even better.  The only complaint I have was they had the most piss pore set of installation directions I have ever seen. All it said was to remove old set and install new set and make sure you keep bolts loose until all together and tighten from the back to the front, that was pretty much it. Never did they mention having to pull the oil filler cover, the clutch cover and all kinds of other little secrets you figure out when you finally get her done.  Not complaining (yeah right) but if anyone else installs a set feel free to email for some better install directions. After doing it once it's pretty clear now.

I will try to attach a couple photos but not sure how.
I did ride with a friend who has a 2002 Electraglide yesterday some.
Prior to the install with same friend in a 5th gear roll on I basically stayed even with him until I got the revs up some then would slowly pull on him.
Yesterday same bike against bike same roll on after D&D install. I twist the throttle and no hesitation I leave him instantly and after about 10 seconds into the roll on I have him by about 8 bike lengths. Seat of the pants feel is much better worth the price of admission I would say.

The install directions would be a big help.

I am about to order a set along with the TM assuming I can confirm the TM can be upgraded or already supports an O2 sensor.

Or just keep it stock because it is the best looking CVO HD ever came out with. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]We have a banana and a cherry and a jalapeno even a pumpkin what about a smiley for our Purple SERKs. Find one,I know Jock will. Later,Q

This weekend was the first long rides I've taken with the FatCats on a SEEG.  But when I went for the test ride after installing the map in the TM.....AWESOME!
So here are the impressions.  My last bike had BSS and I base everything on that sound.

A stock CVO103 has a high torque band, starting about 2800rpm.  Now, at 1800 I can whack it open and there's real power.  It will also cruise real easy around town at 2000 and have power ready to accellerate without coughing or hesitation.
Torque is great and the bike is really alive now.  ThunderMax with the stock Touring pipes woke the bike up so it was much more responsive.  Now it's a real "Screamin' Eagle"!!

The pipes I got were the touring baffles....everyone says performance baffles are way too loud.  Plus, they make torque, which is what our baggers want anyway.  Sound comparison vs. a set of 2-2's are that the independent cadence of 2 pipes gets muffled when coming out a single pipe.  And it takes a weekend to get used to the sound only coming from one side.  Obvious that the pipe is scavenging really well.
Tone has been getting deeper as I ride it, and it is very deep.  Easy to hear radio and passenger conversation, but a good bark when you're on it.

True, instructions totally stink.  Don't really need most of the hardware.  I didn't use the spacers on the rear hangers 'cause I wanted the pipes tucked as close to the bags as possible.

Map issues with the TM map:  Speedo calibration is incorrect and should be 40960.  Also, this map seems to have been done with the performance baffles.  I increased my AFR in the 15-25% TP by 5%.  This seems to have fixed some stumbling in that range.  I'd be interested if anyone else noticed this.  In 3rd or 4th gear and 2200-2500rpm, is the engine balky?  I also think the cold engine rpm is a bit high.

So my D&D Fatcats are STILL sitting in my garage BUT on the way from Zippers is:

Thundermax with my FLHTCUSE map and a few other goodies....("Honey, its the only map they had.... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]")
50mm EFI Throttle Body
Red Shift Gear Drive Cams/Gears and whatever
Pushrods, build out kit, Airfilter

So my $450 Thundermax turned into $2400 of excitement (but I have a map! [smiley=banana.gif] [smiley=jalapeno.gif])

And in all the spare time I had waiting...I also got GP Designs Main Shaft Outer Bearing Support
For all the power(?) ::)

Now I'm gonna have to get a second job to pay for all of this... [smiley=nervous.gif]

And hd-dude will be busy when we get back from Cripple Creek...
