Zippers 54 MM TB or HD SE 50MM TB
« on: May 31, 2006, 02:14:47 PM »

Anyone,

I am leaning to the Zippers 54 MM TB Cruise compatible c/w Manifold and AC Assembly. Does anyone know if you have to reuse your parts from the stock TB?

Also at the HD SE 50mm, I realize the Zippers flow better etc and supposedely the HD SE 50MM is not cruise compatible.

I have the Kuraykn 57 MM TB, however it did not dyno that well, the stock HD TB performed better.

I realize I still have quite a bit of tuning to do.

Build is JIMS 120 c/w S&S 640 G Cams, Vortec Head Work by SBC, now V&H Pro Pipe, HD SE 6 Speed.

Dyno at 118hp and 123 TQ, was expecting 130/133, still needs MAP tweaking and issue with TB. I left the Dyno Sheets in Phoenix, am having them sent to me and will post.

Bike ran great, even with the TB and Tuning Issues.

Thanks in advance.

I'm suprised whoever set you up with the 120 package did not test with different size T/B's.  I have been told if you go too big you rob yourself of torque...  Anyway, there is a thread over on harley tech talk in the 88b section talking about oversized throttle bodies.  Someone posted a reply from an engine builder about these and the results were interesting.

Geezer,

I talked to Charlie sorry to hear about the big let down from the pipe.  How did they other tests go with the new pipe that was ordered?.

For what its worth:  On my 124 I had the 50 mm TB from Zippers on my bike for 1 1/2 years  and when I changed it to the 54 mm Zippers I saw very little difference between the 50 / 54.   Currently I have the 54 and it runs good.

Bigger is not always better :)

Yeah, 'er 'uh, Geezer,
My 120 has the 54MM Zipper's TB, and manifold.  My latest dyno-chart is posted on page 5 of this thread, under "Maudie's Latest Dyno Results."  I had a 50MM Zipper's TB on this Motor, when it was a .005 over, 95 cu. in.  All I know is, when I call on her, she responds!  54MM was made for a 120, IMO.  Later--HUBBARD

I added the 50mm SE TB and am very happy with the results.  Though I don't have the need for cruise on my FB.

I would definitly go with the 54mm like HUBB said its made for a 120 certinaly not excessive the kuraykyn tb is not known for its air flow capabilities....what compression are you running with those 640 cams??/

MAP decreasing when RPM's go up, bigger TB?

Look under this thread in the 88b section...
