CVO Limited Price
« on: September 03, 2013, 05:42:54 PM »

Just noticed that MSRP on the CVO Limited was $44,400 + TTL.  Plus most dealers are wanting 2-4K over that. Think last years CVO was $39,500. They bumped it over 5K for 2014...

I did see a 2014 Blue CVO limited today & it sure was nice looking. Talked to the new owner & he said it rode totally different than his last years CVO Ultra did...

Chuck is right, your dealer is feeding you a line of BS if he's telling you the price is $44,400.00.
If he's planning on screwing you at the beginning of the purchase I don't think he will stop after the purchase.

The dealer in Simi Valley, Ca. wants 39,200 (ca. msrp) + 1,500 (freight, prep) + 3k over + tax and lic. - told him to pound sand... bought elsewhere - I wouldn't go back there if he dropped his price 20k - what a pair of balls...

I said in another thread that I saw a '14 SERK on the floor at Killer Creek marked at $33,499... That's $5000 OVER MSRP.  That's highway robbery. The nerve of those guys! They won't even get a SEL for another month or so... God only knows what they'll mark THAT one at...

I don't even buy parts at dealers anymore... I buy all of my parts these days online at the discount dealers.

According to H-D the MSRP is $38,999 and freight is $435, so the total would be $39,434.  Were does the extra $2561 come from (41995 - 39434 = 2561)?

There's a red one at Iron Steed H.D. (Vacaville, Ca.) and they're asking MSRP.  The couple of dealerships I called in Nor-Cal were asking MSRP.

Its not a limited, but I just bought my CVO Deluxe (MSRP 28,999).  I paid 31,000 out the door including sales tax(6%), freight, title, registration, everything, plus new slip ons, a charger and an ERC class....  31 seems high but after I add it all up, seems pretty good...

That brings up a good point - will the Deluxe hold it's value more than a Limited 4 years from now as a percentage of list? The dealer and factory have more margin in the Limited

Imagine what they would buy in mods, but then the person that will pay that 7K above MSRP probably isn't concerned about his/her wallet!  It's just dumb! :nixweiss:

Actually, I don't get incensed if the dealer tries to get over MSRP. What's the big deal? If he thinks the market will support a higher profit for his goods and he wants to ask it, there is NOTHING illegal or immoral  about that. He has decided that he's willing to suffer whatever customer relations consequences might accompany his asking it.
  I won't pay it...I'll go elsewhere.
His having made the decision to ASK it doesn't mean he's a thief or extortionist or whatever. He's made a business decision based on his belief that his market will support a greater profit than the SUGGESTED price will provide. Let him give it a shot. MOST of us will walk and buy elsewhere. Someone may decide to pay his price...in which case, he is proven correct. It may well be that enough customers are pissed off by his decision that his future business is damaged. It may not make any real difference. I don't know how it will turn out for him and don't care, but I don't think he's an evil bastard because of his decision.
MSRP is not a cap, it is still a suggestion. If the same dealer decides to DISCOUNT his '13s because his market is soft for those now....are we gonna get pissed and DEMAND that we pay MSRP?

Contrary to popular rumor, those black marks on the floor are from the tires, NOT from the heels of the customers being dragged in and FORCED to buy motorcycles.

MSRP in Canada is $44,409, a bit less than the price of a new Lexus ES 350 Touring Pkg. Hmm...a new CVO Water Glide or a new Lexus?  ;D

That's exactly what it's coming too.  MOCO seems to be pricing these CVO's out of the market.  When you see leftover '13's around, that's not good news.  We can only pray that the Indians and the rest of the competitors keep chipping away, as that's the only thing that will rein them in.

Sorry, I don't agree. Worked in retail for 30 years and to me, this is a short sighted strategy that takes advantage of customers. I remember selling generators after an ice storm in the NE and not marking them up even through there were over 100 people in line for hours in freezing weather. Generates goodwill and loyalty when you treat customers right,

Which should have brought you repeat business. I agree with MrSurly. It's supply and demand. It's pretty much what this country is about. If I really, really want something I may be willing to pay more than the average to get it in my time frame. If I don't, I won't.

I remember when VCR's first came out they were over $600 and people who could afford them paid it to have what others could not. Personally, I never paid that and will not pay more than MSRP for pretty much anything I buy. Most of the time much less if I am a repeat customer.

Remember, the dealer only needs one ass for that seat. 100 people may look at it and scoff, but usually...someone will buy it. Sometimes it works in their favor, sometimes they end up with left over models when the new ones come out...but...they probably made enough selling those units over MSRP to take a bath and come out way ahead on the one or two they got "stuck" with.

The problem for the dealer is perception and long term customer loyalty - how do you treat your customer base now and in the future - most folks that can afford a 40k bike aren't stupid and know when they are being gouged and won't appreciate the treatment - it will come back and haunt them through repeat business and referrals - if 20% or 8k dealer margin isn't sufficient than it's all about greed and taking advantage of people - who want's that type of reputation ?

I went through this in 2011 when I tried to buy a skunk from the local dealer (Brighton Mi) which would have been my 4th bike from them and they tried to get me for $3,000.00 over, but they said they wouldn't charge me set up?  They can do as they want, they have the right to make money on something based on supply and demand.  I agree with the others, it's very short sighted to do that to loyal returning customers.  At the end of the day, someone somewhere will sell you the bike for MSRP and in the end, they lose a long term customer, not to mention the referrals and parts and accessories that would have gone with the bike!  I run a car dealership and I preach that daily to my sales managers and sales people.  Think long term, think about your loyal customers and the business they bring you if you right by them.  That will add up to a lot more than the 1 time $3000.00 burn.  Bad business as far as I'm concerned.

Bottom line is, Harley is the leader of the cruiser/touring market.  Harley has a unique sound and appearance, and is the most customizeable motorcycle on the market with a world wide following.  110 years of production!  Others can only hope to emulate Moco's success.

Granted any big MFG. can end up on the ropes, as G.M. has demonstrated, but in 2014 Moco made a positive step in the right direction to maintain their dominance.  It wasn't long ago that we spoke of Indian's nice looking bikes but a price point that compromised any chances of real success.  Now with Victory they may get there best chance of cutting into the market, giving Victory a traditional segment was well as Victory's orginal updated verions of the cruiser/tourer.

As priced, I would agree that Moco is at the limits of the price point for the mass produced CVO cruiser/tourer.  I'm not sure younger folks in general can afford the upper end bikes, but Moco has bikes priced at every level as well.

This is the first time in a long time that dealers (at least in Nor-Cal) sense that MSRP and no mark up will be their only chance of moving the top end bikes.  Moco will have to tap into a new demographic of customer base to stay on top, to continue their success.  They haven't alienated their traditional buyers and have worked hard to successfully encourage women and younger buyers to buy their brand so I expect they will maintain their market share.

Just my random thoughts on Harley Davidson in general.

 :ROFLOL:

Rob, I don't know if you meant that like I am inferring you did... as in the ASS who will pay several thousand over MSRP just for the privilege of riding a CVO and getting royally ripped of in the process?

My day is just starting, but that line already made it for me!

According to H-D the MSRP is $38,999 and freight is $435, so the total would be $39,434.  Were does the extra $2561 come from (41995 - 39434 = 2561)?

Jerry

I do believe that includes TTL for Wisconsin. Milwaukee sale tax is 5.6% plus TL!

If it has Creek in the Name, I will not spend a penny in the store.  Thunder creek same owners, is the same as Killer Creek and Mountain Creek.

02, they were 5K over on a Black and Silver Anniversary fatboy I wanted.  Asked the sales guy what the real price was and he flipped the tag with 24K on it and said can't you read.  I left and thought I may have just got the one A hole.  Went back two weeks later with a Purchase order from Knox Harley for the same bike when it was due to come in in 45 days.  Got a different salesman and asked what they could do on the bike, he showed my the 24K card.  I showed him the Purchase order for the one coming in to Knoxville, he said go buy it there.  I did, have not tried to buy anything at a Creek store since.

I don't blame you... That is just shameful for any sales organization to treat customers (or potential customers) that way.  If that's the way they always operate, I wonder how many 13's they are now stuck with?

I bet none of those stores even sell paddles!   ;D   Sorry, just had to say it.

In the end you got the bike you wanted and paid a satisfactory price, which is a win, win.

Man I can't believe the arrogance of those sales people. No need to pay over MSRP mainly because we end up spending several thousand more getting the bike the rest of the way where the MOCO left off when they shipped it. :soapbox:oops back to the subject.

Yeah, well I don't feel sorry for those OPEC enriched cartel folk.  When you factor in the $20+ a tankful we pay in the US vs gas for next to nothing over there, over the life of the bike, you more than even out. That's before you factor in resale values too.

Nothing personal, but as soon as gas is back to $1 a gallon in the states, my sympathy meter might ratchet up a bit.

Took a ride to two different dealers over the weekend . I wanted to look at the 2014 CVO Limited but both stores didn't have one in stock . One store said that they are selling the bike for 7K over MSRP and the other said around 4K over MSRP . Both said the bikes they did have  where sold before making it out onto the floor. If what they said is true that means  the bikes are selling for 43K to 46K .. Ay , Caramba !  Makes the price I paid for my SECU7 sound reasonable (almost).

Go to an honest dealer and buy for MSRP.

If anyone wants a CVO Limited silver / orange (Sorry I am not sure what they named the colors) I can help you find one for list if its not already sold.  That's the MC I ordered but switched to a blue instead. My dealer should get it in this week I believe.

Good people to deal with.

Picked mine up last week for $500 under MSRP, plus TTL and freight. The first dealer I went to wanted 3K over MSRP and was low balling me by 3.5K on my 12 Limited trade in.

Support of a dealership either as a customer or as a chapter member may indeed help.

One guy says he got an awesome deal at _______, everyone is going to check out _______ before going elsewhere.

Its entirely beneficial to the dealer to offer good deals to folks with the audience.

I just bought a new CVO Limited last week. I traded a 2012 Ultra CVO. I first went to the dealer I had bought my last two Harley's from. It took them three months to come with a price but they didn't have the bike. They finally said they would look for one. In the mean time I found two other local dealers that had the bike I wanted. I talked with them and they were $6000 cheaper than my dealer I had been using. The original dealer called me but couldn't believe they were $6000 higher than the other dealers. They didn't call me a liar but came close to it. I made a copy of the sales agreement but haven't showed it to them yet. There seems to be a lot of changes at the good old boys dealership in the last few months.

Yeah that's the price on the road, but we don't get the premium shocks, LED taillight, smoked indicators or the highway pegs, and maybe a few other items that I haven't discovered yet.

I knew about the lights, indicators and pegs but the shocks are news to me. I test rode the standard limited and the suspension seemed pretty good so hopefully the CVO will be ok.

I was a little dissappoointed in the ride when I first picked her up, but they delivered the bike with only 9 PSI in the shocks. Have just been away with my wife and the panniers/tour pack about half full for a few days and the ride is a lot better with 35/40 PSI in the shocks, no wallowing, sweet handling and pretty decent ride even on our pot holed Aussie back roads, although you can't punt it along like you can the BMW GS I have (and probably shouldn't expect to).

I'll be considering the premium shocks or maybe some Ohlins units and inserts down the track a bit.

Stopped at Brian's HD today to check out the 2-tone red CVO Limited. It wasn't listed on their website this am when I checked. Called and talked to Dennis Ritz and he assured me it was on the showroom floor. So I made the trip. I liked what I saw, but when it got down to the dealing, not so good. I need to trade my 2012 orange /black CVO Ultra.
I wasn't expecting a lot on a trade, but it was so low, it made me lose interest. I'm happy with what I have now, but I really like all the changes for 2014. But for now, no deal.
It's not easy to find these bikes, and the dealers know it. I don't mind them making some $$$, but the deal was really a low ball figure for my trade. By the way, Dennis was a great salesman. If I would ever do a deal there, he would be my go-to guy.

Lots of CVO Limiteds listed on Cycle Trader but I find unless they have a real photo the bike is likely on order.  Our local Columbia HD have about 5 listed but none in stock.  When I inquired they said they were expected delivery in spring.
