03 SERK w/700 Mi. Gear Lube Smell?
« on: May 19, 2007, 07:55:36 PM »

I just bought the bike and while riding around today in about 80 degree weather, I noticed a smell of gear lube when stopped at stoplights.

When I got in I checked under the bike and both sides of the trans and saw no leaks. The only thing that I did see was a small light smudge on top of the engine case next to the right side trans cover.

Should I be worried about this? Could that tiny smudge cause the smell? I tried getting close to smell it but could not really tell.

TIA,
John

If its not leaking don't worry about it, The tranny is vented on the left side of the bike with a J shaped hose that opens to the air. The hose is on the tranny top and behind the inner primary.

Zero leaks, fluid level fine.

Thanks for the info
