Title: An Afternoon at North Shore Motorcycles!
Post by: Hoist! on November 30, 2007, 04:12:02 PM
Hey gang, I spent a good part of the afternoon at Vern and Buddy's shop, North Shore Motorcycle, in New Hyde Park, NY. Vern's the guy building my new 110" engine. I went by to drop some parts off, see my flywheels, and take some pics for ya'll. Because I know how much ya'll like the pics!!! ::)

Sit back and enjoy them. Should be about 20 of them. :2vrolijk_21:

A shot from the steps of one area of the basement. They had an elevator installed when they built the building to get bikes up and down. The Dyno's down there too. BTW, notice the bike with the red seat. That's similar to the style the parts from my WG will be used to build.

Don, look carefully at the top of the crank. Look familiar. See how burnt the crank is. That's my old crank with 8800 miles on it. Vern says he sees all the FI bikes, including Evos, burnt like that. And none of the carb bikes. Engine tuning on FI bikes doesn't matter. They all run extremely hot. It takes a lotta heat to turn that color!

BTW, I'm good friends with these guys. I've known Vern for years. I spoke to them. If anyone needs anything from these guys, they'd be happy to give our members at least a 10% discount, maybe more, depending what you need. Make sure you tell them you're from this site, and that Hoist told you to call. Ask for Buddy. He'll take good care of you. These are great guys, and know their chit. This ain't no stinkin' HD dealer!

Hoist,
Seems like all the bikes but yours were locked up with a cable, whats up with that?
The place does have the real cycle shop feel.

All the bikes in the showroom are cabled together. The bikes being serviced are locked up seperatetly in the back. And who the hell would wanna steal a 110 anyway! ::)

Yeah, they definately have their act together here. Vern's been doing this for over 25 years now. He's been building engines since his teens. And you think I ride fast? You gotta see Vern ride. I always have the most fun hell riding with him! Trip times are cut in half! :o ;D

Hey Howie, can they do SERT's too?

They're a Certified PC Tuning Center, and Buddy does the SERT too. But he's not all that enthused about it. Takes too long for them, since you can't tune on the fly with the SERT. He can't afford all the time to spend on tuning because they do a lotta sevice and builds. But he'll use it if someone want it. He knows how, but doesn't push it. He pushes the PC and gets most of the tune setup now with the Tuning Link. Then fine tunes it from there. He can do most bikes with a PC in under 3 hours now. He's gotten much better at it. He just started with the Dyno about 1-1/2 years ago.

Cool shop and great guys. They do well on the Service and Parts. But those Choppers don't move like they did a few years ago. I'm probably going to go in on Saturdays and try to sell some bikes for them. No KHD tactics here tho! :o ;D

Thanks a lot Dave. I've got the utmost confidence in Vern's builds. Around here he's got a great rep for engines. He's built for drag racers and races (used to) his own drag bike too. He's really into getting this motor right. It makes him sick to hear what's been going on with the new HD's, especially the 110's.

Yeah, it's been a little rough this year. But I managed 8800 miles on her since I got her in Jan. another few thou on the WG. Plus all the miles I did on loaners and rentals. So, I might not have been in the wind as much as I like to, but didn't do too bad.

I also got to meet many of the fine folks from this great site! So all in all, not too bad of a year anyway. Next year Cybil and I intend to take back the roads though! Look out, Cybil might be coming to a neighborhood near you!!! ::) :o ;) ;D

Hoist! 8)

BTW, the Service Area (where my bike is) is locked up seperately from the showroom. The new bikes can be seen from the Main Road thru those large plate glass windows. So if anyone looks in, they'll see them all cabled together. The place is fully alarmed and insured too!
