FLHTCUSE4 Battery replacement
« on: October 26, 2022, 01:51:37 PM »

Haven’t used her for some time and looked in the other day, battery tender lead had come loose and battery totally flat. Think it’s sulphated as it won’t take any charge.

No lights come on when switched on.

Need to replace the battery but don’t want to fall foul of the alarm issue if you disconnect the battery, not even clear if the fob battery is flat.

Any advice about replacement of the battery, can’t remember if my model had a PIN number for if the fob was flat?

Thanks in advance

You need to gain access to the fuse box.
Turn on power, engine off, remove main fuse, can't remember if it is 40 or 50 amp.
Turn off power.
Remove battery clean cable ends, install new battery.
Turn power on/ engine off , reinstall main power fuse, turn power off.
Remove battery from fob, install the new battery confirm position of positive side of the battery is installed properly.
Turn on power and start bike.
Be sure to smile if everything went right , and go burn off the old gas before adding fresh.

Attached the charger to the charger tail and tried to just turn the ignition on.

Nothing at all, no sign the bike is turning on .

Any ideas, anybody?

Do you have 12 volts at the battery? Clean and tight connections and ground wire to frame is also been cleaned and tight?
All fuses in main fuse box have tested good?
Confirm that the charging leads are connected to the battery / circuit and ground.
In line Fuse is installed also installed in the battery charging wire?

Not done that yet, will do.

Concerned as what would cause fuses to go when it was stood without the charger attached.

Weather has been rubbish here, so wanted a good day to see what I’m doing.

If you haven't already got a battery try looking at Motobatt.

My HD battery  battery run down when I was on a trip (left the ignition on  and run the battery flat). I got a jump start and was about 300 miles from home . It was my last day and was heading home. Stopped to fill up 3 times it was on the third fill the starter wouldn't turn over.

Called the roadside assistance to come out, when they checked the battery it had 13 volts but only 30 CCA amps. I had used up the CCA amps on the last two crank start ups. I got jump started again and made it home I tried to crank it after I turned it off ,...no go.

I replaced the battery with a Hydbrid Lithium 650 CCA from Motobatt.  MHTX 30

Have to disagree with the procedures for removing / reinstalling the main fuse.

Proper way to prevent the alarm from sounding when main battery is disconnected is as follows:

Turn ignition on (engine run switch 'off).
Wait for the security system to disarm.  Normally light will blink and siren may chirp.
Turn ignition off and quickly before the security system rearms remove the main fuse.

Reinstalling the main fuse should be the final step after replacing the main battery.  Do it with the ignition off to minimize arcing.

Not a good idea to pull or insert the fuse when there is power to the system.
