Today I installed a whim into my 16 fltruse.the insall was a piece of cake amp so was the software upgrade of the headset but, when I tried to install the firmware on the whim I got an error message and the upgrade failed. Has anyone come up with this and what was the fix?

I had a friend install one and he mentioned that he had to take the bike to the dealer to have the Boom configured to operate the WHIM.

From your post not sure if you had this step done.

I’m going to the dealer tomorrow, the ecm has to be flashed before it will work but, instructions say to upgrade the whim first. I’m thinking it might be balking because the firmware is already at the correct level looking at the top right corner where it shows a picture of the whim with the correct version next to it.

Aggravating being forced to the dealer when this should be someth8ng we can do in our garages. IMHO

I just updated mine & it did the same until I reset it then no problems. It took a few goes & some patience. Note mine has been in Lucille for about 18months so it is not an initial install

UPDATE,

The dealer agreed that the whim firmware update from the website is corrupted and did the update using a memory stick as part of the flashing process and all is good. They did of course, charge me for a half hour labor, and after I had to tell the service writer, service lead tech and the tech that actually did the work, how to do the firmware upgrade and What boxes to check on the digital tech,
They had to tear my bike apart to “make sure I plugged it up correctly “ because all of us riders are idiots.  But, I love it already.

When will I ever learn.....
