Hawg-Wired speakers
« on: January 22, 2010, 09:09:15 PM »

Hawg wired has new speakers out--DX series. Are they any better than last years CX series?  They say there is 15% more bass. Has anyone tried them?

I have never had the CX, but I have the Double Shots DXs on my bike, and I am very impressed, I recently installed some real loud pipes, and those speakers damn near drown them out........if you wanna upgrade talk to Jim (hd-dude)

Did you just simply swap out the speakers?

Be curious to see how they compare to the earlier speakers or the J&M big speakers.

I did a comparison a while back on these, basically they are better than the CX speakers. They have a much better tweeter and fuller bass response than CX's due to the larger cone surface. Should people with working CX's upgrade? They are better but not $250 (retail) better than the CX speakers.

As for the J&M's I do not have a comparison but i have to ask the question, Do you ever listen to speakers through a funnel? No matter how big the speaker you still only have the 5" hole for the sound to come through. I am sure they have more bass response due to the larger cone but when it matters in the wind you cannot hear bass notes very well anyway.

Jim - I haven't tried it yet but what is the reason Hawg-wired says the component speakers will not work in the tourpak pods?

They don't seem to be any bigger.

I can't speak for Jim but I put the SX502-60 components in the front without the crossover's and coaxial RX502-50's in the rear.

I tried the components in the rear pods but they hit when they got within 1/2" of the mounting surface.  I could have probably used a heat gun and/or hammer to modify the pod/box but didn't.

On the above 2 speakers, there is a great difference in the size of the magnets.

I had to use a heat gun with the regular speakers. if you look close you can see the bulge in the pod.
