Zumo/sd/card problem
« on: January 24, 2010, 05:00:15 PM »

OK here we go I have  Zumo 550  I can only get about 430 songs  on a 4 gig card to load in a reasonable time about 3 minutes any more than  that and it completely locks up the 550 will not even draw the map until I take the card out  my music is all mp3 format and 128 and 160kbps in folders I have read many posts on this great site does not seem like anyone else has this issue. Garmin was no help the odd thing is I have several other people who I have borrowed sdcards from with 700 plus songs on them and it loads with no issue. I put my card in there 550 and it wont load either. any suggestions would be great.

How many songs in each folder? Have you tried your card in others Zumo's? It's a possibility you could have a bad (corrupt) card or song on that card. :nixweiss:

I have tried 3 different cards even went out and purchased a new card I format the card b4 putting the music on as well would 1 song cause all these problems? I have put my card into 2 other 550s and it will lock them up as well I thought maybe the program I used to contvert to mp3 was the problem so I tried itunes converter and media player converter and same result BTW the program I used to convert from itunes to mp3 was media monkey

Leads me to believe a file (song) is corrupt then. You didn't say how many songs you have in each folder... I'd try loading one folder at a time (testing after each folder is loaded) until it locks up then empty that folder and load song, test, load song, test.... Tedious process, but if it's doing the same in other Zumo's and other cards makes me believe you have a corrupt file (song).

Sounds like you have almost a folder for each song which (IMO) is over kill. I think I have 25 songs in a folder and 4GB card full and don't have any problems at all.

How are you transferring the songs to the card from your computer.... in a card reader or directly to the Zumo? Is the program you using creating the folders for you or are you manually creating them?

My suggestion is to manually create folders on your SD card, transfer directly from computer to Zumo, manually enter 25 songs in each folder, and test it after each folder is loaded.

I am transfering from the computer to sd card via a card reader the program I used created them automatically    so if i understand you correctly leave the zumo plugged into computer with sd card in it and transfer music to card directly?

That's what I have done... must warn you it's going to be slower then transferring it by a card reader though. If you can use the card reader and manually create folders, and manually put 25 songs in each folder try it that way. Only thing is you will need to take the card out after each folder is loaded and test it then put it back in the card reader to load the next folder.

Removing the possibility of a corrupted file, (song), this should eliminate your problem.

  Solid advice, Fired00d.   :2vrolijk_21:
