what gear are you in

My question to all that have a SE Dyna 08. Only the 6 th gear lights up on the gauge cluster is that normal or should all gears be indicated

when the shifter can't be pushed up anymore the light will come on.  I call it a disappointment light.  I am always looking for one more gear.   Enjoy your scoot and hope you are one of the lucky ones and don't have a 'leaker'.

yep ditto there, was/am dissapointed with the 6th gear, i would rate it as a 5.5thgear on my dyna 5speed

I always thought the same way but after Hogasm's explanation on how these motors should be treated I spent the ride home from York one gear lower than I did on the way there.  He said they have the torque to hide it but these engines lug at less than 2,500 RPM's.  They're powerband is 2,800-5,000 RPMs.

Never ride it below 2000 RPM! PERIOD!!! 2500 is better, and gets you closer to the power band. Power band of the stock 110 with stock 255 cams is a narrow 3000-4500 RPM only. You waste precious momentum shifting higher than 4500. Those engines respond extremely well to "short shifting". Just keep shifting up and down as required to stay in that range if you like to always have the power in your throttle hand. You'll be amazed at how much control you have on the engine and bike, if you always stay in the power band. I try to always be "on the cam" (in the power band). For my 110 setup now, that's about 2800-5500 RPM! ;)

You can always use a different style gear indicator  :2cr_01:, but in the case of the scooter, correct indicator would be gear down unless you're doing wheelies.  :bananarock: :pepper:

It's normal, but I am always trying to get another gear out of it. When it won't shift, I then see the lit "6" and just say "chit".

Yeah, I know what you mean... I got tired of wishing and added a shifter sprocket like on the old ten speeds, now I have a twelve speed. Just kidding of course... :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

You can't fit a KLN90B on your scoot!  But I bet Harley would sell a bracket to fit it anyway.

Im with the others here, I keep my 07 SE Dyna in whatever gear alllows 2500 rpm at x-speed. It seems wrong sometimes, like cruising through town with posted speed of 35-40, and I am holding steady in 3rd., with maybe upshift to 4th after getting over 40. My tach shows right at 2200-2500. Of course, on open highway, and in 5th at approx. 55-60 mph, I am bout right at 2500. Sixth? Dont even think about it till the interstate and at about 65-70, kick it in.

i have a sticky shift lever
( i mean when the bike is hot and i change up or down the gear shift doesnt return to the mid point to enable the next gear change up or down unless i physically boot it into the mid point;)
 blooming dangerous when in traffic and i need to quick change........have tried lube spray on all external linkage joints.
Am loath to take it to the stealer till riding season is over.
