Here is a list of many bikes 0-60 times that may supprise you.
http://www.zeroto60times.com/body-style/motorcycle/
I've been eyeballing the KTM 1190 adventure for a while. A glorified dirt bike that will do 0-60 in 2.7 sec

It is a great feeling to ride a sport bike that handles through the twisties. Sold my Triumph Trophy 1200 last year after I found myself constantly doubling the speed limit. Sure loved the way it handled. Would do it again if I knew I could drive sensible.

Personally I would recommend the Ducati Monster in either the 800 or 1200 cc form  :2vrolijk_21:

I have a 1996 Ducati 900 SS/CR and as much as I love to take 'er out the aggressive ergos are such that after an hour or so I'm ready for a break. A few folks I know have the Monster and the riding position is relaxed (for a Duc) and it will accelerate and handle extremely well - and will let you scare yourself silly just as well as a full on sport bike.

If buying used make sure all the recommended maintenance has been done - ask to see the records - as a disrespected eyetalian mistress can be very vengeful, and expensive to make happy again. The newer Ducs have a longer interval between valve adjustments which helps defray maintenance costs - my '96's recommended valve adjustment interval is every 7500 miles but it does take me several years to reach those because the Duc is a toy I take out maybe once or twice a month just to get my fix  ;)

BTW I'm not exactly a young guy(early fifties) but sometimes I refuse to act my age  :huepfenlol2:

Two Ducs I have looked at online.

Monster S4RS

Diavel

Also looking at this BMW K1200R. Little older but a very well reviewed bike.

Diavel for me if price wasn't a factor.  A more upright riding position, for us old guys...looks like a  Vrod.  These bike just reek "cool."  I'd also take the new Ducati Scrambler.

Someone posted the video below and seeing it I got the strong urge to get a sportbike myself. I saw a lot of similarities between his riding style and skills and the way I ride my BO and Limited! ;D

https://video-fra.xx.fbcdn.net/hvideo-xpa1/v/t43.1792-2/11197591_1036779036352004_1622114344_n.mp4?efg=eyJybHIiOjE1MDAsInJsYSI6MTA3Nn0%3D&rl=1500&vabr=737&oh=2294df4161404fa5e4f405f707c19592&oe=554F97B1

Then I looked in the mirror and realized I might be a little (fifth decade and counting) too old. But I have a buddy Paul in UK who is older than me and rides a Ninja (pictures attached below). Looks like with the proper riding gear, a full face helmet, and in my case losing a few pounds, we can at least look forever young.

Dystopia - Escape from Gotham

Paul and Ninja - Jasonesque Scene

So I though maybe I will give it a try after all! Why not? We only live twice. I'm looking into getting a matte black Ninja ounce all proper approvals have been granted.

I'm 69 and have been riding a sport bike for years. In '62 this was the sportbike.

It's more fun riding a slow bike fast than riding a fast bike slow.  :drink: yes I've owned some pretty awesome sport bikes in my day.

My touring pig fits the bill.

I took this picture while hanging with Steve Johnson NHRA team, the "old" guy on the right is my friend
Bud, 72 next month and rides his turbo charged Hayabusa almost daily for the rush. Rear tire life is about 1,800 miles.
 Nope, your not too old.

I'll second all of that!

Although, if money weren't an object, I'd have a hankerin' to go with one of these... http://www.campagnamotors.com/products/t-rex-16sp/specs.aspx

Mostly because at my age, my body doesn't bend/fit on my son's Ninja...so, those kind of sport bikes are out of the question for me.

Go for it! You're never too old unless you can't get your leg over the saddle. I think I was 43 when I had my pre-midlife crisis. Be forewarned about a Duc ... I ended up trading in my old '11 RGU after riding both the Diavel and the Mulistrada Granturismo about 1.5 years ago ... they are both a rush, but I took the Multistrada home with me. I typed up a pretty good short novel about both if you feel like searching for it. To sum it up short, it was like riding a comfortable crotch rocket that carries easily removable panniers and top box with 150 hp on tap .... some guys do just that and hit the track with them. My three biggest reasons I got rid of it was I missed the comfort of a real seat that didn't feel like a brick, cruise control and tunes to listen to ... all things I could've fixed if I felt like dumping some $ in it, which I didn't. I was also in fear of losing my license or killing myself on it since I drive for a living so it was back to HD again for me. It was an amazing machine that I do miss, but it was one or the other so it had to go. The suspension on the softest setting was almost like floating on a cloud. Watch this if you haven't yet ... it was what made me check one out in the first place.

Here are both of my reviews on the Ducs ... kinda long-winded, but pretty thorough.

I had an 03 suzuki gsxr750
After 1300 miles it was time to get rid of it.
I realized this after me on my bike and my brother in his car left after lunch one day and he said I went by him like he was sitting still on 1 wheel. He was doing 80 and I was unaware that I was on 1 wheel, I was only in second gear.
So fast yet they don't feel like your moving even in the corners. I do miss it. Dam it, now you got me thinking.

Whatever you buy, i know it's no easy but try to hang onto your common sense while your on it.
Good luck and ride Safe.
