CVO patch and MC clubs

Has anyone on here ever had any problems wearing the CVO patch while riding, in my area certain MC clubs will challenge a new patch on the scene and I am not sure whether to chance it or not.

typically "Bikers" as opposed to "motorcycle enthusiasts" claim geographical territories.  A CVO is a hybrid Harley Davidson, I would think they would claim your bike before your patch.  During Bike Week in Daytona, Boot Hill Saloon used to require customers to turn their vests inside out, even if they were not "Club" related.  "No names, no colors, no weapons, no attitudes."  Things seem less confrontational now, everyone just wants to have a good time.  Our CVO patches shouldn't "threaten" anyone, anywhere, including the UK.

as a single patch with no separated top or bottom rocker and no MC cube you should not be bothered by anyone

I belong to a car club and a few of us with bikes were wearing our car club jackets and were told by local chapter of a worldwide MC club not to wear them while riding our bikes. So now I like to check first.

I don't believe there is a "One Rule" on "Flying Colors". I have never had a firm "Take it off". Last time I was asked not to fly I was in the local VFW and it was mentioned that the Commander would prefer to not see my colors worn. The time before that I was given a support shirt and told to "Wear That"! I guess it's how the idea of "Colors" is perceived.

Our jacket has 2 hotrod cars with the club name in an arch over the top with the words- "Classic, Custom & American" under it, there is no mention of motorcycles or bikers anywhere yet the told us there would be trouble if they saw us wearing them while riding, I even offered to go to their club house to explain what our club was all about but they weren't interested.

"club" colors with issues should be the 3 piece design.
Top rocker (club name)
main patch (club graphic)
bottom rocker (locale, typically)

And we are an "internet" "group". Group being the key word. And it specifically states we are a group on the patch.

Our CVO patch does not come close to meeting that criteria.

Harley and the HOG has a two patch color for a riding "group" so it fails the MC 3 piece patch issue as well.

Now if you went and put a state rocker under the HOG patch ......................

I even offered to go to their club house to explain what our club was all about but they weren't interested.

That is not surprising and is a lot more difficult to arrange then you would think.

For your area, if you really wanted to get a clarification, try and get in touch with the CoC for your area.
Confederation of Clubs.

Good luck with that though.

Don't want to get into it anymore, we have just told our members it is better not to wear car club jackets while riding and left it at that.

Does anyone combine hog with CVO, say the CVO patch with a HOG chapter top rocker ??

Disclaimer!  I'm no expert

That said, I've never seen a H.O.G. Chapter name above anything other than the approved H.O.G. National patch. You might wear a small CVO patch somewhere on your clothing other than the center of the back.

The large patches in the center of the back typically by themselves aren't as big a deal as the rockers people place above or below them.

As mentioned H.O.G. went through a great deal in the U.S. getting their patch accepted by the MC's. You should never see a lower rocker with a H.O.G. patch.

HOG does indeed have "bottom" rockers such as road captain, photographer, membership officer, etc. I have 3 under my HOG patch with the local top rocker.

Don't think I've seen that... then again I've never heard of the situation you are describing. I own/wear a CVO Large patch on one of my vests and have never had any problems. Best I can tell you if you are experiencing problems in your area and you want to avoid them then don't wear one of the CVO patches. :nixweiss:

But not on the back patch?  That's just on the front of the HOG "Costume" if I recall correctly.

1% clubs started the support T shirts to get around the "No Colors" rule. Didn't work for long as most places just added "No Colors" "No Attitudes" "No Support Shirts" to their list. As someone stated earlier, this is becoming less & less an issue.

Seeing as it originates from "99% of bikers are decent, law abiding citizens" (the balance is where the 1% comes from) maybe we should be wearing 99% patches.

There is no requirement to place them on the front, they are shaped to match with the bottom of the HOG patch. Granted I don't have the large HOG patch and the bottom rockers are sized for the small one. just the same they are available.

If your local rumor is indeed true, it's possible whoever was offended was not up to date with the intricacies of biker gang patch etiquette.

There are no bottom rockers... they are all curved in the top fashion.

I have seen remakes from some chapters with peoples names, etc. These are not official HOG patches.

This screeshot is off the norscot website (supplier for HOG)

They don't have bottom rockers. A bottom rocker is u-shaped.

I notice you're in the UK. Thats probably where the difference is... I know in Australia it is the same... the outlaw clubs dont let anyone ride with any kind of patch.

HOG went to great lengths to get the 1% clubs to agree to leave the HOG's alone, and in return there is no bottom rocker with HOG patches. Any bottom rocker you see is not sanctioned by HOG and the rider wears it at his/her own risk.

A local HOG member made a patch with his nick-name for a matching bottom rocker.  He was told in no uncertain terms to remove it.

Exactly...

Club habits and attitudes can be very different even within one country, additionally they are subject to constant changes. Whereas in Saxony - today! - nobody will be challenged for whatever he cares to wear on his back, already 100 m further north in Brandenburg or around Magdeburg you can get in real trouble for any sort of patch some local club chooses to dislike. And just some years ago some crazy kids even around here used a shotgun to disposess an uncooperative patch holder.

As I travel much and in several countries, I don't wear any patch. I don't need any dispute about such things, especially not in a foreign country. When visiting a church in spanish or polish countryside I would not go topless either  ;)

If you are not a MC member why would you want to look even remotely like one, btw?

Hans,

The phrase "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand" comes to mind, but since you asked the question I will attempt a response.  Our vests, pins, patches, etc. are about pride.  Pride in our choice of motorcycle, pride in the years we have owned, pride in the many places we have gone, pride in our common bond which is the motorcycle experience. Given your level of participation here, I can see you too share these values.

I do not wear my vest(s) to intimidate or threaten others, I wear them to show this pride and (hopefully) to introduce myself to others.  Many times I've had someone (I don't know) say "Hey I see you went to the Maggie Valley State Rally" or remark about one of my destination pins or patches that I have.  Why hardcore MC clubs would find this a threat I do not understand, but then bullies in groups do irrational things all the time with or without club affiliation; reference our recent incident involving a bunch of thrill riders beating up a guy in front of his wife and daughter.

A vest or jacket that displays these values are not an attempt to look like a Gang Member, and to tell you the truth, the Gang Members that I know, could care less. As previously noted, add bottom rockers and/or a territory, then yes, you are asking for trouble.

I have one of these I wear from time to time. In the 99% world it is hilarious. In the 1% world it has been described as an insult and a "Wanna Be".

Like a bunch of kids whining about patches? I mean come on, if they're that chickensh!t about what someone wears, I can promise ya that I've got no time for that BS or the ones that are spreading it. I'll wear what I want to wear.
