Off the axle?  If so make very sure it's actually oil.  If it's more of a grayish color you might be seeing some of the anti-seize that is used when bearings are pressed in.  That stuff will oooze out slowly over time.

Yes, it is certainly SYN3 dripping off my rear axl? I have already needed to add a quart because the leaking is so bad? Other then this my SERK has been great!!

What's the stuff smell like?  It's probably either brake fluid or oil from the shock.  At any rate, with the amount that is on the paper, I doubt I'd ride the bike with all that slippery chit on the tire. ???

The tube you refer to is the ABS bearing sensor wiring that goes from the rear wheel bearing up to the ABS unit under the right hand side cover and ECM area.  I would have to say that I can't think of ANY oil in the rear axle area.

If you have engine oil back there it has to be blowing rearward while you're riding to deposit itself on the rear axle.  Just for grins and giggles though, take a look at the ABS unit under the right cover and make sure there are no leaks anywhere in that area.  Break fluid could look like oil but it would smell differently that engine oil.  But maybe, just maybe, a leak in that area could be wicking back through the sensor wiring and stopping off at the rear axle.

Other than a brake fluid leak, look for an engine leak that could blow back to that point of the bike.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

The wife's 07 SERK had a similar leak. Turned out the right shock was leaking oil. Everytime it was parked it would leave an oil trail. Replaced shick no more leak.

It looks like it should be a shock leak but....Why would he have to add a quart of Syn3 if it's the shock?   :nixweiss:

Well, it is at least conceiveable that it could use a quart of the chit they call SYN 3 during the early stages of break in...my bet is the shock or brake fluid migrating down the ABS sensor line.

Shock would be my first thorough check though...

Just looked at the video, and if you look closely when he takes the camera under the bike at the bottom of the shock (just barely visible for a few seconds, approximately 1:23 into the video), I believe you will see a discoloration that sure looks like oil on the bottom of the lower shock attachment.  I don't see an obvious track/trail of oil that has blown back from the engine/trans area when he moves the camera forward along the swing arm.

Best guess without having the bike here, the engine oil useage is not related to this condition, and I suspect the shock is leaking.
