Question about FatBoy frame?
« on: November 06, 2010, 09:10:10 PM »

Are the frames all the same on the 2007,2008,2009 Fatboy? I have a project in my head and trying to see if one of those frames has an advantage over the other. Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Frame change came in 08 - so the 07 is on it's own and the 08 and 09 are the same. I have a 08 and doing a rebuild from the ground up. What do u have in mind.  :2vrolijk_21:

Thank you! Finally someone answered my question. I have always loved the looks of the Fatboy, almost everytime my wife sees a bike that she says she likes it is a Fatboy,(she loves the solid chrome wheels). I thought maybe a toy for us to share would be in order. Nothing real major or high dollar. Thanks to your answer I would use newer frame 08 or 09 bike. I think 107" with lots of TQ in mind. Of course PC and AC, I like the looks of dual pipes like on a bagger. I know they may not be the best for performance. Maybe some fat beach bars? (may not work for her ride comfort). Let my wife pick a paint color and graphics. I did not know how detailed you wanted, I hope I did not bore you. Still in the pre-thinking stage in my head. Nothing in concrete. Are you going all out with yours. Wife is currently riding and happy with my old 03RKC, I'm on the 09SEUC. You know just something different for Hooters bike night, or around town.

I traded my 2001 FLTRSEI2 for a '07 Fatboy because it had a look that could not be beat. And beat is what I got, one of the harshest rides ever.  I put 800 miles on it over a period of a year and sold it...ah...gave it away and bought an '09 FLHX and later traded...ah...gave it away for a '10 FLHXSE.  The Fatboy is still the best looking bike I've ever owned.    :worthless:

Do you think the 08 or 09 would ride better than the 07 since HD changed the frame in 08? Any idea what made the 07 ride so harsh? Always loved the Fatboy look. Pics still in my head.

The engine case and the last of the powdercoat parts are down and the balance of the chrome will be shipped tomorrow. So now the fun begins, reassemble. Here what's I'm doing. 08 Fatboy with 8,500 miles that my wife bought me brand new for our 25th. Total rebuild with everything being re-chromed or powdercoat. We chromed the frame and and had to swingarm reworked so the pulley and brake disc would both be on the left side leaving the right side wide open, the swingarm was chrome too. New PM custom wheels, real flames added to paint, all new chrome front end, the jugs were powdercoat and diamond cut, the engine is 103 stage 4 SE kit, new Carlini ape evil bars, all new gages, platinum air suspension. I know theres more but it's late. I cannot wait to see it together again. Pic's to follow soon.

A Fat Boy is the best looking bike, especially with a solo seat and exposed rear fender.  It's the one that always just "did" it for me, which is why I got my '98 Anniversary model.  It was not as comfortable as my current Road King, but six hundred mile days to and from Sturgis were possible (about four hundred miles of which were enjoyable, after that the bumps got to feeling a little square-edged).  For what you are describing it will be fine.  I sold mine to my brother this summer for less than half what it was worth to let him ride rather than keep fixing his Shovel and he's put over five thousand miles on it since then.  Sometimes wish I'd kept it.  You won't go wrong no matter what you you get.

Here's is mine.  Still need to swap the seat but it's been a fun project.  It's a 2007.  It's not the road glide but I still think the ride is great.

I like yours. Looks great. Sorry apes are not for me. Mainly because my arms are short.
