Bike ate primary tension broke chain
« on: April 23, 2011, 06:20:37 PM »

Hi
Does anyone know the part number for 2000 FXR4 primary chain and bolts that hold the chain tensioner in plcace? The chain tensioner one screw come out causing primary chain to break, bent othe bolt and wear on the tensioner. I think the motor sprocket and clutch basker is OK. Are the same as a dresser? How many links on chain?
Thanks,
Lynn

If you go to Bike Bandit.com you can see parts drawings and OEM numbers for the primary and most anything on the FXR4. Might give it a try.

Thanks,
For info and site link. It was very helpful. I had to buy a 1 1/2" , 1 13/16" socket and snap ring pliers to remove clutch basket / cain / motor sprocket. I was lucky that the chain broke only one side. I made a awfull grinding noise as it removed a little of the inner primary case is two spots but it did not bust the case. I took photos of the case, shop said it was not bad enough to replace it.It slightly wore the chain adjuster. I ordered a Diamond 76 link primary chain and two new mounting screws that will get locktight. The bolt threads don't appear to be stripped out, I would have hated to helicoil it. Money too tight ot have bought a new inner primary case.
I will put it back together when the parts arrive. The clutch is a left hand and gets about 65 ft lbs of torque and the motor 100 I think. If I missed something some one pleas let me know. Next project is my highbeam only led no headlight issues.
Thanks,
