I have an FXR3 I got with forwards, and just got an FXR4 with mids. I cant wait to get the mids off the 4. Far better with the forwards in every way for me. At 6'1 the mids feel like I am riding a kids bike

My wife wants to go from forward controls on her 2008 FXDSE2 to mid control floor boards.
She has mid control floor boards on her 1998 Dyna. Before I sell her '98, she wants me to transfer her '98 floor boards to her '08.

Any comments/advice appreciated.

I have had a 1988 FXRS new way back when. I just purchased an FXR-4 that the previous owner had installed forward controls on. He was nice enough to include all the stock parts. I just recently changed back to mids and highway pegs. Did I mention I am 6'2" and about 275? I can shift and brake from both positions (used to do it on the 88). In the mid position you shift and brake normally, when using the highway pegs I can shift and brake with my heel very well. No need to reposition to mids to brake or shift.I like  more options.

I know I won't ever go back to forward controls and will probably be listing them for sale soon.

I have forwards on my FXR4. I bought the bike used about five years ago. It also came with a 3" BDL open primary so I can't go back to mids unless I convert the primary back-$1500 then the cost of mids. Mids are great for absorbing big bumps in the road and for flying thru the twisties. I have a bad knee so even though I would like to go back to mids the forwards are real easy on the bad knee. They do tend to scrape some if I'm pushing it in the corners.

My fxr3 came from previous owner with forwards.
They were comfortable, looked good, and I thought I liked them.
But the way I ride I always felt I was sliding off the seat.
It also had pullback risers (original) that were comfortable but put me in a more reclined position.
But I never putt my bike, and comfort is not what I need or want.
If you ride fast go with mids and straight risers.
This will put you in the right position to react quickly and not have to shift your body or move your feet.
If you like to cruise then go for whatever makes you most comfortable.
I think how and where you ride are the biggest factors to this.
On SoCal freeways while splitting lanes comfort takes a back seat to control.
But beware these bikes are low (too low). I used to scrape my forwards.
After the switch I scraped my mids.
I went to 13" shocks. This helped a lot.
Now I am adding +2" fork tubes.
If I was just getting into the fxr thing especially with the cvo bikes, the 1st thing I would do is go with 13"-13.5" rear shocks and +2" fork tubes.
I would keep the mids and try out some different length straight risers. I like 8" and I am 6'0 tall.
Very comfortable with lots of control.
If you like apes or buckhorns you can probably rock the forwards and be cool and comfortable all day long.
I think this is the big divide between different riders.
To each their own, just ride it and don't wait for it to go up in value. Its a motorcycle.
Oh and here's a pic for mids on an open primary for previous poster. Not mine, taken from web.
