Luggage Rack for FXR3
« on: May 24, 2013, 04:46:31 PM »

Greetings!

I recently purchased a completely original Green/Emerald FXR3. I ordered the recommended luggage rack from HD-PN 53711-96A. When I removed the sissy bar for installation, the luggage rack was about 3/16 of an inch too wide. This caused the sissy bar uprights to splay outboard and prevented the reinstallation of the sissy bar. I am brand new to the HD world and would appreciate any help. Thanks!!

Semper Fidelis,

Chris

Was that thing sealed up in the box?  The number you have is correct, but it shouldn't be too wide for the mounts.  I just put one of them on my FXR-4 last winter.  Went right on, no issues.

I actually used the one from my Sportster. I used longer bolts and put spacers in to cover the gap. Not sure if you are encountering a similar issue, but that's what I did.

Thanks for the reply! The part was in the original package. My sissy bar uprights measure 5 7/16 inside to inside. The luggage rack was 5 5/8. The service guy at Space Coast HD said to use a hammer to make it fit. I can't bring myself to do that to this beautiful machine!

Thanks Again!

I can think of a better use for your hammer, but it might get you locked up!   ::)

there are times when you need a hammer ..... this is not one of those times !!

I ordered, and returned two tall sissy bars before I got one that fit on my bike !
Return it, ask for a replacement.
