Anyone put the new IDS on a 07 SE ?
« on: September 04, 2007, 11:09:24 AM »

I have been reading about the new IDS system that comes on the 08 bagers and can be be put on our 07 flh's. Has anyone with a SE put the rear dampner on? I hear it works great.

With the wheel and axle changes for 08 not sure if it will retro to the 07's.  Several people have tried to put the new brakes on but they don't work.

From what I've read on other forums, the IDS drive pulley that has been put on 07's  has helped with 5th gear whine and makes the overall rideability of the bike better.  You can run lower rpm's in a given gear and it does not feel like it is lugging.  If I had an 07, I believe I would install one from what I have read.  FWIW..

Scott, I installed the kit on my 07 SEU simple install, does require pressing a bearing into the replacement pully, Its not a fix all as ive read on some forums, but the installation does contribute to a more refined drive train, I never had any whines or clatters from my transmission so I cant comment on that problem, I have a hunch that if it whines without , it will still whine with.

IDS deal
« Reply #5 on: September 04, 2007, 07:35:20 PM »

Ok, so I have been hearing about this Isolate Drive System (IDS) and just curious what the deal is on this thing. Is it an 07-08,  6-speed, touring model issue only? What about early Ultras, especially CVOs.

Smells like a H.D. Co. coverup at the owners expense.

Appreciate any info.

Think of it as a compersator pulley, like the one on the output sprocket on the motor. It came out this year, but will fit 07 FLH's.

thanks everyone, I think I will try it this winter with the new Micheilin tires that just came out for the touring models. I like the idea, wish it had come from the factory. More money.

I stopped by Wilkinson's HD dealership in Barre VT this past Friday and asked about the IDS Sprocket.
They said that they have done several 07 stock bikes and two CVOs and claim that they all love the upgrade.  In fact they are running a winter special for $275.00 installed that is cheaper than the cost of the part on HD's web site.

So I'm going up for a foliage ride this up coming Columbus Day Weekend and they will change it out for me as I wait, they claim it only takes an hour to install.

My 07 RKC SE fells like it is logging in 5th and 6th all the time even at 70 MPH. I sure hope this works.

FYI I have over 3,000 miles and no engine problems yet I hope.

PS The IDS only fits certain type wheels I was told!

I read on another forum that Harley is having some service special during October...IDS installed free....apparently this is their way of saying "oops we made a big mistake in not putting this on the 07..so here is our way of saying sorry"...still gonna have to pay stealer plrice for the part possibly. Others who have installed themselves say it takes about 1.5 hrs. That would still be $130.00 or so. Others have said IDS on ebay for as little as $175.00.

Dealerships here in Houston were closed yesterday so I plan to call mine today and confirm.

Yup, fitted it to mine on Sunday!  :huepfenjump3:

(haven't ridden with it on yet though - the rain started just as I finished....)  Nice easy job, wouldn't dream of paying to have it fitted!  If you are buying the kit though, get the dealer to press the bearing in before you take it home! (unless you have a press, that is!)

Removed the balance weights from my wheels the other week and installed the ceramic beads from http://www.innovativebalancing.com/motorcycle.htm too. I'm impressed!  Wheel balance seems perfect, AND it's got rid of the nasty weights from my chrome wheels too - corrosion would be a certainty to start there...

I've read nothing but good reports on folks who have put them on 07's.  Zanotti's will press the bearing for you if you request( $12 extra) and has one of the best prices around . I plan it as a winter mod on my 07

I gotta break down and do this IDS thing. It just pisses me off to keep spending money to salvage my 07 CUSE2. I figure about 4K more than the purchase price and it may make me proud.

Well, I'm at (at UK prices) about $10k over the purchase price (which is $46000 here!), so don't count on it!  :orange:
