Jim...my personal opinion is that Mobil 1 or Amsoil are better products than Syn 3, which from all things I've read is not a true syn, but a blend, like many other "synthetic" oils on the market. I am old school, nothing but Castrol GTX in my cars for the last 25 years, but now run Mobil 1 in my autos, and go longer between changes (7500 miles). Like Jerry said, I'm not sure we'd notice a real difference unless we kept the bike for a very long time...but, that's exactly what I plan on doing, so for my peace of mind, I want the very best reported products in the bike. I change the bikes engine oil every 5k, but other holes go 10K. Jerry, and some others convinced me about the Redline in the tranny, and I have been pleased with the results. It is my personal belief that to change more frequently is a waste of product, UNLESS you ride on dirt roads all the time, or a lot of very short rides where the bike does not get a few hours of run time to get itself cleaned out. I used to religiously change oil in everything I owned every 3K, but I have been convinced through a lot of reading that doing so is totally unecessary these days. Again, these are my personal opinions/practices.
