2013's and the Gold Key
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:52:05 PM »

Does anyone know if HD corporate just stuck it to us 2013 CVO buyers?  I was hoping on the Gold Key and I do believe it may have went the way of the Buffalo.  Probably to increase the profit margins for the HD suits.  After all, we just paid thousands upon thousands of dollars, and that key had to cost Harley Davidson a whopping $1.20.

Hey, HD...if you are listening....I like the little key.  I would stare at it all day at work, keeping my bike on my mind, which equates to more miles ridden, and more mods being bought, and wearing out the CVO sooner.  It makes sense to give us that little piece of Brass so you can make millions.  It was a token of thanks from Harley to us, but what the hell.  Many years ago I bought a Honda and think they gave me a Rice cake with the company emblem on it, and a small piece of raw squid tied to a hunk of Seaweed.  Never figured that out because the Squid wasn't big enough for any of my hooks, and the Rice cake tasted like crap without the frosting.

Come on guys, dummy up the key!

I heard I was supposed to get two passes to tour the CVO factory in PA.  Didn't get those either. Probably a good idea because I would try to track down the idiot that done away with the keys. :(

That was two passes for the Harley Museum in Milwaukee, at least that was what I read somewhere.

I assume the price of brass must have gone up like so many other "precious" metals and the Harley "brass" decided to save a couple bucks by eliminating the key.  For those who must have one, I think you can still buy one from your friendly dealer for about $90.    http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448765091&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302321659&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302321659&locale=en_US&bmUID=1350063417743&bmLocale=en_US

Yeah, I was very disappointed also. I was really looking forward to getting that key of personal accomplishment.  The MoCo decided at the last minute to change from a Gold Key to a Commemorative Coin.  That's why none of the dealers knew about the change.  So I ordered myself a Gold Key anyway!

It was a tradition set by Harley Davidson that was unique to the proud owners of the CVO.  I know it is not of much material value, but it is also another place where Harley's bean counters should not try cutting corners.  I don't really cherish it, but I think it is a nice touch of class.

Mercedes AMG does a similar presentation with a special booklet, $100 gift card from Sax Fifth Ave., special edition DVD, etc.  Just to remind you that you purchased their flagship vehicle(s).
