Touring Pull Back Handlebars
« on: January 30, 2010, 02:06:05 PM »

Am thinking of replacing my stock bars with the HD pull back bars (#56176-08) Does anyone know if the stock brake & clutch lines will work or do they need longer ones? May also put heated grips on while I'm at it.

I use a Flanders bar with the same dimensions. It will need a longer clutch line. Dealer tried to make the stock one work. It got kinked and needed to be replaced.

I did the install on mine and the stock brake/clutch/wiring all worked.

What was the trick to get the left grip off? Or did you replace it?

I did both JC's bike and Terrie's with these bars. No cable changes were needed.

Your  grip must be glued on.  My heated grips were not.  Some people have used a thin blade to work around the grip to loosen, I have heard of compressed air to try to blow it loose, or on my wife's bike, I got disgusted and cut it off and put on nicer grips (that did not glue on).   You would think that a SESG would not have a glue on LH grip.

I put almost 600 miles in the past 24 hours and these bars are very comfortable.  Some don't care for them but then some don't care for the chubby 575 either.  Terrie and I are very happy with them and it was much less $$ than the chubby 575. :2vrolijk_21:

Do you need to relocate the mirrors to use these bars?

Not if you pull them back a bit.  My wife still has the fairing mounted mirrors and I know of several guys that have them......just have to pull the bars back a little further.

I switched to fairing mount because I wanted my bars all the way up.  When they're up, they're 2" taller (and that's why they say that you can't use them with fairing mounted mirrors) and so that kind of tells you how far you'd have to pull them back/down to get them back to stock height.

What kind of grips did you go with?  I am looking to replace mine, as the paint on H-D is chipping out and it looks like chit.
