i had this made for my convertable. it attaches to the two thumb screws that hold the seat. I used the pad and chrome piece from the sissy bar. i'll try to add a picture.
-
another Pict
-
Nice job. Is it functional or did you do it mainly for looks? I'll bet it's a Ba$t@rd to get at those thumb screws now.
-
It is functional. works great!! The thumb screws are hard to reach so i just take the pad off and then you can get to them.
-
NICE...Sure looks good.
Could you post a picture of the part the you made without the pad on it?
Is your pad solid enough to lean against it?
I have been trying to come up with a similar approach, but so far it has not been stable enough to lean against it without putting to much force on the nuts and maybe scratching the fender.
-
It sits on the seat pan so it doesn't touch the paint. it is very sturdy and you can lean on it hard.
-
Thanks for the photo. Will give it a go this winter. :2vrolijk_21:
-
May I ask who made it for you? Also, can you tell me where you purchased the hardware pictured in the 3rd photo? I would love to have one made as I have a Mustang seat with back rest on another bike. Thanks. :cherry:
-
I'm not sure what hardware your talking about? The mount I had made by a local welder(total cost for everything $35.00). I mocked it up in cardboard and had him copy it. the rest of the hardware (pad and chrome mounting bar) came from the sissy bar.
-
The 3rd photo depicting a black metal component which I assume is the backrest that the pad is affixed to. I call it hardware but I guess that is the wrong term. I wonder where you got it from.
-
I had it made by a local welder.
-
Thank you. I will have to consider whether I need one.
-
Would you consider having another made for me? I will send you the money first of course. Would love to get that setup on mine.
-
I am also interested. Like SJR, I too, would be willing to send you the money in advance.
-
That does look great and I also would like to get one. I can see what you mean about taking the pad off first to get to the thumbscrews.
-
I have the same bike, 2011 in Maple
any other modifications?
I only have 12 miles on mine...picked it up yesterday
-
I have also added the 2012 windshield and GPS. the windshield that came on the 2011 is just about useless. I was getting a lot of whistling in my ears and turbulence in my face. The 2012 is much better.
-
I was thinking of doing that too
where did you get it?
how much$ ?
-
I will be trailering my 2012 FLSTSE3 home tomorrow, as they put a ton or two of road salt on the roads today. but at least it will be home.
Satin Pewter - the pictures do NOT do it justice.

Very Nice! Congrats on your new ConV. :orange:

Very Nice! Congrats on your new ConV. :orange:
Took it out today after installing the Gerbings wireing harness, 34 degrees, but the raods were dry. Only a 35 miler, but it ride nice, I like the Mini Apes, and the 110 SE motor. Rain and snow in the forecast the rest of the week, so now it will sit with the cover and battery tender till march or when the roads are SALT free.

You get it at Harley. Cost about $1400.00 including the GPS

Thx Spy - it really does. I have enjoyed my previous two CVO's and this one is not disappointing. :2vrolijk_21:
will be adding 62823-08B flush mount fuel gauge/cap and have all winter to consider which exhust to buy. Most likely it will be a 2-1.
I was happy with the Bassani RR Long with the quiet baffle.
-
I will be talking to some fabrication shops near me to get one of these made for my solo seat.
What gauge steel is yours made of and do you know the angle of the bend?
-
I don't know the gauge but it is 1/8" thick. the lean angle depends on your height and arm length. I took of the sissy bar pad and took it to the welder and sat on the bike with the pad where I wanted it and had him determine the angle.
-
I am working on my version of the seat back. The angle from the seat to straight up is about 120 degrees.
It will be awhile but when I get mine finished, I will post pictures.
-
Thank you Xpanther for the template. :jalapeno: I will wait to see what Ozarke does as well. :carrot: I cannot wait to compare both of the versions. :orange:
-
Ozarke where are you getting yours done at? I think you may be in my area and they could do 2.
-
I am having this bracket made as we speak. If it turns out well, I can have them made in quantity for any other "solo" riders that want one.
will let you know in a day or so.
-
I am making my version myself. I now have the plans made but have not started the process yet. Not in a big hurry as it is cold here now. Will post pictures as soon as I have it done.
jjohn, yes I live in Springfield, Mo area. Drop me a pm with your phone number, if you wish to talk or assist in process.
-
OK.....Here is mine....
-
Another
-
One More...
-
sjr: That looks good. :orange:
-
I could not have done it this quick or this good without the help of Xpanther.
Thank you, Xpanther
-
Your welcome. Have you tried it out yet? I love mine.
-
Ozarke, am sending you a pm with my info since we are in the same area.
That really looks good sjr and I have to get one now!
-
Just a thought......I found someone to make the seat bracket for me and he has the CAD drawing to allow him to now make copies of the bracket. I can have them made with or without the mounting holes drilled. Probably a small price difference without the holes.
I'm trying to see if there is any demand for this part. The fabricator would rather make a run of 50 pieces rather than one at a time (understandable)
I think I can get them made for less than $60.00 each in heavy gauge steel that will not bend as you lean on it.
Anyone who is interested, let me know and we will see if it is feasible.
-
I'm intrested

BTW I swore I would not make any modifications to this bike......I can't believe I'm considering it!

A moment of losing touch with what's important in the whole scheme of things.. :D...har. :huepfenlol2:spyder
-
I am interested as well. :huepfenlol2: I wonder how different it is from Xpanther's solo seat.
-
It is actually the same as Xpanther. He supplied the template.
-
My wife is interested and so is a buddies wife. If Mama's happy I'm happy!!
-
It sounds like maybe 5 or 6 interested so far. If a few more people respond, I will get them made up.
-
I'll buy 1 for a buddy that just bought a 2011 . :2vrolijk_21:
-
I was considering buying one, but found that I the 2010 model has the emblem welded on the sissy bar. 2011, 2012 is an insert and can be used on the solo seat back as shown. The cost is about $50 for the emblem.
Sorry, I will continue my exploration of prototypes.
-
I'm ready to send money for this :bananarock:
-
count me in for one
-
First off, I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, whichever holiday you celebrate and a healthy & safe 2012.
I will need a final count from all who are interested in ordering the part so I can tell the shop how many to produce...I will probably have him do a few extras.
If it is not against the rules, you can send the total cost which will include shipping (to 48 states) $68.00
to......BETTER-WAY PRODUCTS

Not sure yet about the chroming though.
I know they can be either painted with a black hammer finish or powder coated.
If you guys want chrome maybe I will send you the bare steel and you can get it chromed locally.

To all of the Convertible owners who ordered a solo seat-back bracket.......status update
The brackets have been produced and are on the way to be powder-coated.
I may have them ready for shipping by the 13th
-
thanks for the update
-
have they shipped out ?
-
SJR - Can I still get in on this deal???
-
A bit of a slow-up at the powder-coater. I should be able to get the brackets early next week and ship them out to you guys the same day. I had 10 made so I still have a couple more available.
-
thanks for the update :2vrolijk_21:
-
Good News!!!
Brackets all shipped out to you guys yesterday. I screwed up a bit on the shipping. The brackets and bubble wrap and box were a lot heavier than I thought and UPS seems to have raised the rates.
I have a few extra brackets avail, but I have to get $75.00 for any future orders (shipping included)
Hope you guys like the Brackets.
-
Great news :apple:

I hope I'm not one of those two. I just mailed my money to you for what you said was your last one on hand. You should have no problem getting another group together. Anyone with a softail could use this not just the CVO. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Hello Fellow Convertible Owners,
I have gotten a few private emails from some owners wishing to purchase a solo seat back bracket.
I had these made up before and sold them all. I can't get less than 10 made at one time, so I need anyone who is interested to reply to me here.
If more than 5 or 6 replies come in, I will have another batch made.
probably will take about 2 weeks to get them ready to ship. Price is still $75.
Let me know, Thanks

Hey, a member answered the call and I pick up a chrome version Friday!
:orange:
-
Are any of these still available? If not, let me know when the next batch comes around as I would like one. I like riding with the pillion off, but it does lose some support in the low back area when you remove it.
-
SJR,
I'm interested as well. At looks like two other guys are interested (August/September replies) so that would make z3 orders.

-
I'm interested in buying a bracket. Or Even if someone could send me the pattern that woul be cool.

How many of you are interested in obtaining the solo seat back?
I spoke to the fabricator about making another set and it looks like we are at about $85.00 each, but I need to get a bunch produced to get that price.
Let me know who is interested.
Thanks
-
I'm in for one
-
Mark me down for one if your still making them...
Thanks and regards,
Fred

Have a chrome one that I don't need- bought a different seat. Includes two detachable seat hardware fasteners 51676-97A for attachment to your CVO sissy bar. $OLD TO PAULA. Reply here or email me at enufdogs@comcast.net in Illinois. See earlier post in thread- bought from "LEVER" last year.
-
Hi is it possible to get the cad drawing as I have my own machine shop in the uk
-
The solo backrest looks like a great addition. I am interested in a chrome or black bracket - any color for that matter.
-Does anyone have one that they want to part with?
-Would anyone have an electronic template and I will have a local shop make me one (slim chance but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask)?
Going on 2 sizable rides this summer, would be a nice to have.
Anyone....anyone?
-
In Canada! Would love to have a backrest on my 12 CVO. I can't find one :(
-
:nixweiss:Anyone have one they want to part with ?
Still interested in one for my 2012 :2vrolijk_21:
-
I just purchased this off the shelf from Bestem.
-
Fadboy- which model did you purchase? How is the fit? Thanks.
-
I bought the softail deluxe (with slot) just in case I had to bend it slightly.
I have not tried it yet but will let you know later how it fits
http://www.bestemusa.com/Harley-Davidson-Softail-Deluxe-07-11-Driver-Backrest-_p_747.html
-
Did have to bend it back slightly on the seat location screws but it was ok and the chrome did not crack so in all it was a good deal

Finally got the mounting hardware for the Corbin seat I got off EBay and will sell my backrest with the bracket I bought from here. This is on a 2011 convertible. Not only do I have the backrest but I also bought the pad #54393-11 and 2 fender screws #51676-97A. These make it easy to take the pad off when mounting the bracket. This is in brand new condition since I ended up using my luggage as a backrest on the longer trips. My cost for this was $270 will let it go for $170 shipped.

Crap - I was just in Springfield for the state rally !
just my luck :nixweiss:
-
Still got it if you are interested. Let it go for $150 shipped to US.

Backrest has been sold.

-
Any more of the brackets by Lever available? New here and would sure like to have one.
-
Tom I don't make the brackets sorry... had one however but I sold it to a fellow member here
