Finally gonna 'Get'er Dun'
« on: July 25, 2014, 05:48:37 AM »

Don't know how many of you will remember, but several years ago I posted a video of a '56 Chevy Sports Coupe that my Son and I traded 2 Softails for. It had a really slick body but only a ho-hum drive train. The one comment I remember was "I expected to see some smoke at the end". Only problem was, not enough guts to do it. Kicked around selling it when I found a '62 Bubble Top, but couldn't make a deal. Sooo.....fast forward about 3mos from now and....427sb, 2.9 Whipple, 700r4, 9" Ford 4:11 Detroit Locker, 900+ hp. No brainer to go this way as car had already been mini-tubed and sits on 12" Goodyears. So remember.....

As a long time street rod owner and having built most of it myself,  I followed and understood most all but..............

WTF is "2.9 Whipple" :nixweiss:

Twin-screw, intercooled supercharger. Stock hood will fit w/o snorkle. Only way to go for big #'s & stock look....my opinion of course.

Almost bought a '57 last year myself. Local guy had redone it, but had let it go the last 4 - 5 years. Body needed minor work, everything else was good. 'course it wasn't supercharged but still a very cool car. Only problem is too many other toys and expenses right now. Maybe in the future.

Good luck with your build. Can't wait to see (and hear) the finished product

Tri-fives are getting harder & harder to find. To bad you couldn't close on the '57, would have been a keeper for sure.

I had a '57 back in my 20's... let it go :bigcry:... should've kept it... would be nice to get another one since I was born that year.

So when you think she will be finished? Maybe by MV GTG? My dad had a 55 Nomad that should have been mine but sold it when I went to college. >:( :'(

My opinion too.

Did they do anything with the front suspension or are you going to have to do that to?

Gotta do it right while apart, JC. New modern A-arms, polly bushings, power rack & pinion, heavy springs, 1 1/2" sway, Monroe SensaTrac. Hope that gets it right anyways  :nervous:

So,  I'm assuming this project is being set up for some (strip use).........and not for the street.

....427sb, 2.9 Whipple, 700r4, 9" Ford 4:11 Detroit Locker,

My LT-1 in my 1939 Chevy street rod, with a posi (3.73) and a 4L60E (which is pretty much the same as the 700r4),  will try to get the car sideways when I get on the throttle big time.

A (big block...427),  coupled with a quite low 4:11 locker is NOT for the street............So,  where are ya planning to run this beast. :drink:
