The Road glide is now more than the Ultra!

The prices are outrageous on these new bikes. I for one will not pay what they want for the 2015 CVO's. I would love to have a CVO RG but not at almost 40K... And most dealers will add there stupid 3-6K over MSRP on them also since they are limited.. HD is just out pricing these bikes for the average person.

You know, this almost makes a case for hanging onto my '11 CVO Ultra RG and buying a 2015 Road Glide Special. Almost.

I really like the new CVO Ultra RG and the color selection though it's hard to tell which is best with those flat pictures on the HD site. Hell, the Blue looks best in the flat colors. I have to figure that the red and orange pop when you get them in the sun.

With that said, I have invested a ton-o-$$ in my 2011 FLTRUSE and I just don't want to go through that on top of it all.

$39650
Tax, Title, License
Extended Warranty
Header Pipe, maybe new baffles
HD Tuner
Suspension (??? They claim a better front end.. but that backend looks like the same dealie-o)
Handlebars (??? Another promise of improvement)

Like SBB said in another post, take a $40k bike and turn into a $45k bike .. and knowing me, I'd make it $50k.

Plus I won't even talk about the rear-end (terrible tail-lights), lack of extended bags and gaps between the bags.

I've always been saying that I would put 100k mi on my '11. With 55k mi on her now and 3 more years to go on my 7 yr warranty, I think I will just keep on riding my '11.

Good points on the stock cost and upgrades cost. getting to the point where custom builders may get more business as the prices are getting closer when all is said and done

Ordering mine tomorrow. Unless there happens to be one on the truck for delivery. With what they're offering me on trade in, I'm not going to wait another 4 years to see what colors they come out with.

The 2009 CVO Road Glides are still in a class all by them selfs!

First hotrod Bagger from the CVO line (FLTRSE1/FLTRSE2) and then in 2009.
Started the trend with the CVO rear LED lights.
Bigger rear tire.
Great color scheme that doesn't look dated.
First with the extended bags. (Even if they are added on)
So far, last bike to date with the much wanted SCREAMIN EAGLE head on the bike.

Won't be kicking mine to the curb ever!
No reason too!

I don't know... not feeling the urge to get a new one now... outside of the cool looking trike (Freewheeler (http://"http://www.harley-davidson.com/content/h-d/en_US/home/motorcycles/2015-motorcycles/trike/freewheeler.html")), there is really nothing from the new line up that screams my name... :(

And I was getting ready to drop off my CVO at the dealer.  They made me an offer to buy it outright.  I know that I can get more if I sell it myself, but I just hate having to deal with selling it on my own...  Even thought about getting a 2014 Road King CVO, even if not in blue... since I like how that one looks.  From talking to the dealer, they did not sell well.  So I know that I can get them to deal on the one they have on the showroom... but arghh... feeling like just using the 48 for awhile... get the Ducati to get my fix for another sport bike, and then just wait to see what the next year brings...  :nixweiss:

3 year basic warranty, 5 year drivetrain warranty...  No upgrades required.  No lifter maintenance, no compensator replacement, doesn't leave coolant puddles...  Just saying.  When the price of a motorcycle begins to approach the price of the fine sports car, it becomes a different conversation and decision.  The MOCO is soon going to price themselves out of their market...

:o what do you mean "soon going to price themselves out of their market"  :o

You can buy a new Dodge Cummins 4x4 tradesman or a new 4x4 z71 Chevy for less than a CVO this year! And you know your going to have to tinker with the cvo drivetrain before you hit 100k miles...

MOCO's pricing for a new cvo road glide ultra is out of line with the quality of the product, the warranty or the quality of service provided...  :'(
Title: Re: 2015
Post by: OBB on August 26, 2014, 02:22:03 PM
IMO, comparing a cvo to a pickup truck is apples and oranges price wise. To get an even comparison you would have to compare the cost of non cvo bike to a CVO same way you would have to compare an entry-level Chevy Suburban to a Cadillac Escalade. Basically the same vehicle with different packages

From last Thurs to today, a new Nada book came out. My '11 went from 25,200 trade to 24,300. Dealer is still giving me 25k for it.  Big tax savings on trading in vs selling outright and buying. Mine comes to about $1600 in tax savings.

What are you calculating there? Take the trade in value away from the MSRP and that is the basis for your state vehicle sales tax, 6.4% ?
If so, I think New Mexico sales taxes on vehicles is 0.35% .. good and bad in those numbers.

You got it. Local tax is 6.5%. They'll take the 25k off the msrp and I'll pay sales tax on the difference.
In Ohio, that only works on new vehicles. It doesn't apply to used ones. I ended up paying more taxes on my '11 because it was used than what I'll pay on this one.

Same deal in NM but thankfully our excise tax is only 3%.

I hate to say this but I am a bit excited about the burgundy blaze and typhoon maroon colors. I just checked out 2 videos on youtube, one blue and one red. HD website, once again, does not do justice to the color in either indoor or outdoor lighting.

That's the great thing about Harley, there's an a$$ for every seat. It just might not be yours.

Um that's the base model.  The Corvette tax is a lot higher than the harley tax.  MSRP on a well equipped 14, with all the performance options and the upgraded interior to match what you get with a CVO Ultra, well its Just over 70K msrp in Jan 14, and now its just over 74K for the exact same car.

I have owned mine since January, ordered it back in October.  I love the car, but if I could only have the bike or the car, the car would be gone.  I have 5200 or so mile on the Vette.  I put 5600 miles on the Skunk on my Sturgis trip this year.

It is.  460 HP and 460 torque, 3.8 zero to 60, and I still got 29 mpg going to MI and back. :cool blue:  The mag ride is great, in touring the car is very comfortable and smooth on the HWY.  Sport really firms it up, no body roll in a 35 mph curve at 70 mph!.  Track it is very firm.  going to the Ron Fellows performance driving school this Oct.

However, I still have more fun on my Harleys!

There are some things on the 15 that I would like to have. But don't think that I will be purchasing one. I have most of my non-engine stuff done to the 13 and it would be a pain selling off all that stuff. Going in a few weeks and having them take the backside out of three vertebra in my lower back, so hoping that I will be able to ride before too long. Thinking about a new bike just before that isn't the smartest choice anyway.

I know.  My long range plan is to trade this bette for a 17 Z06, most likely it will be white again, color just works well on this car.

Prices are also getting ridiculous.

i don't know that prices are so much as getting ridiculous as they are all over the map.  in 2014, a vivid black street glide was $20,399.  this year, it's $20,599.  two hundred bucks i can swallow.  but the street glide special was $22,499 in 2014, and $22,899.  $400 is getting up there.  but then you look at the color option, 2014 $23,009 compared to $23,999.  now you're talking about $900....  wtf?  is the green paint really that much more expensive?

the cvo limited only went up $400.....

Gonna be interesting trying to change the bars on these. They're pinned in a few places allowing very limited movement. I've got a few pix on my phone that I need to UL.
St Charles HD has an orange RGS they're blacking out and has aftermarket bars on it but the tech couldn't say much about removing those pins as the MoCo rep was standing real close.

Bars are now 1.25" the whole way through with no stepdown. Might take the aftermarket a little time to catch up to this. I did not remember to ask the tech what bars he put on it.

And now for the good news. NO MORE HOOKS holding the fairing on :cucumber: One bolt on the T/S and about a 10 other ones including under the speaker cover. Then the vent portion has to come off. Basically it's a 2 piece outer fairing.

Pix 1 Shows the pins on the bars by the control area. There's also a pin on the cross section under the clamp

13 and 14 bars have no step down on the CVO King from my understanding, and also pinned.  Changed the Bars out to 14" Monkey Bars on my 13 CVO King. I had to wait to get them as CVO has the HYD clutch, plus the now no neck down at the riser.  Plus I wanted to run heated Grips.

I am pretty sure I will change the Bars on the CVO Road Glide Ultra, the stock ones come back to far for me.  Plus I like my 14" Apes, have them on my 12 CVO road glide also.

i would guess to index the controls, with the internal wiring you dont want to rotate them to far or you pinch the wires.

would also guess non of the aftermarket bars will have them and doubt it will be an issue by not having them.

the bottom of the stock bars on the 13 SERGC have to small embossed arrows to indicate dont rotate past this point

That is pretty much what I was told the pins were for.  On my 12 SERG the Dealer Pinned my Apes, as they have lots of leverage and they will move.  You do have to be careful with internal wiring.

Pretty much right on. If you look at the pix of the old bars, there's a hole in front of the bars that wires go through. If you rotate the controls too much, you take a chance of damaging the wires.

$48000 plus for a new CVO Roadglide-I think not.  The 09 Screamin' Eagle will do just fine. :2vrolijk_21:

Yikes - pretty soon they'll cost as much as a modest house at this rate...
