Changes - '16 versus '15?
« on: August 24, 2015, 10:40:06 AM »

Although the colors have changed on the new '16 bikes, the paint scheme looks identical.  Have any improvements or mods been made to the CVO RGU or is this bike the very same as the '15?

2016:

The Tour Pak rear light housing is now color-matched;

Updated, consolidated key fob with automatic locking system;

Slight changes to seat with different foam;

Slightly narrower primary;

Tire pressure monitoring system viewed through Infotainment screen with warning light on instrument cluster; and

LED Front Turn Signals but lower Rear Turn Signals have been deleted.

Adjustable (without tools) air suspension?

I hate the double key fob. I wonder if there's any chance for us to get a consolidated one for our pre '16 bikes.

I was wondering the same thing.  My guess is yes, for a cost.

While they added LED turn signals at the front, the bullet turn signals at the rear flanking stop light of the SERGU are gone.  I'd rather have the old style and put my own LED's in the bullet lights.

The consolidated fob would be nice but I'd really want the TPMS.  That's a safety item.  I can see they wanted to "clean up" the rear and save some $$ but you can never have too much light out back. I also installed the Custom Dynamics Magic Strobe.

90 degree tire valve stems are on the 16's.  That should be nice given the tight clearance between the wheels and the brakes!

I hear ya. I'm still a big stickler about the Amber turn signals just for contrast. I also have three more lights than you Greg. Lol

I am going to have my rear light housing painted to match this winter along with the heatsheilds. The consolidated key would be nice depends on how much the moco plans to charge.

New Cam?

There’s a higher compression ratio for top efficiency and horsepower. An airbox for increased airflow and a redesigned cam to optimize low-end torque.

That's the same statement they used on the 15 key features.

i looked up the part number for the cam on the cvo rgu, how can they claim 'redesigned cam', when the part number is an 07 part number?  with no revision letter following it?  redesigned for something, just not the cvo rgu i guess.

And a very good move on their part.  The narrow primary works well on the low.

The '16's may have an updated rear air suspension.  There is a reference to adjustment without tools in the Road Glide Special website.  Is a hand held air pump a tool?   :nixweiss:  CVO website:

In some of the photos I see a 2.5" fog light attached to the front turn signals.  I find it in the 2016 P&A catalog on page 712 & 713.  Anyone know if this is a new item and if its any good?  Its not stock.  Just thought it might be an alternative to some of the caliper and fender lights.  Guess would have to add up mount, light, wiring and acc switch.

Hold that thought a minute and let me toss in a couple of pennies. Those lights are Kury knockoffs. Or Headwind knockoffs. Been around a while.

One thing to consider in adding lights down low is it increased the pattern or triangle of light instead of drawing the focus of others to a single area of light all up by the fairing. The bigger area of light the better. I have the CD dynamic rings in the Turns plus the caliper mounted driving lights. Anyone that has ever ridden in front of me says they have no problem seeing me in their mirror as opposed to someone with all their lights focused in one area.

Not much change at all, but there is a price increase.

Added Led to front turn signals inexpensive addition, removed rear turn signals big cost savings.  Will also add cost for anyone wanting to run with the tour pack off as you will have to add turn signals to the rear.

My guess is the single fob set up is a was, no savings but no increase in cost.

The biggest changes is the tire pressure monitoring which would be really nice to have.

Same old paint design which last year was pretty much the 11 paint design.

Sure wish they would put some effort into the paint design and graphics.

All good points OBB on the lights.  Just had not noticed that option before.  Guess by the time you add up everything needed it approches some of the other lights.

Those lights mounted to the turn signals you have seen are the same LED lights that mount to the crash bar. New bracket for turn signal mounting is all.

Been interested in them for a while, just not sure of the turn signal mount is the best location.

If they haven't changed the angle of the navigation screen then all of the other changes are insignificant compared to this problem...it is the single biggest reason I am still riding my batwing...loved how the roadglide rode, but could not see the nav screen with the sun anywhere behind me...could not even see the radio...I can change the bars, but the nav screen is too big an error on the motor companies part

That is correct. I looked at one recently and asked. They used the one inch lower kit front and rear, new seat, and skinnied up the primary cover. So I am assuming that it rides as stiff as the street glides

The website specs show identical seat heights for the 2016 and 2015 CVO Road Glide Ultras.  Are you sure about the one inch lowering?

I sat on the LOW version and my feet were flat on the floor with a slight bend in the knee. I then sat on the new CVO Limited and only the tips of my boots could touch the floor.

No they did not use a lowering kit on the CVO Road Glide Ultra.  You are talking about a totally different bike.

Here is a '16 Ruby Red / Palladium Silver.  Note the contrasting lowers.  I prefer the '15 Burgundy Blaze / Typhoon Maroon.  While the paint scheme is identical, the colors contrast more.

I do like the red/silver.  Not any better than my '15 Burgundy Blaze.  Also kind of like the blue/silver Limited.  Overall the colors seem to be getting less "special" every year.  If I was buying this year it would be one of those two.

The consolidated fob would be nice but I'd really want the TPMS.  That's a safety item.  I can see they wanted to "clean up" the rear and save some $$ but you can never have too much light out back. I also installed the Custom Dynamics Magic Strobe.

New Cam?

There’s a higher compression ratio for top efficiency and horsepower. An airbox for increased airflow and a redesigned cam to optimize low-end torque.

The replacement part number for the camshaft kit is the same for 2015 & 2016 (25638-07), so it's not a new cam. And the compression ratio is 9.2:1 for both years. Looks like marketing babble.

And a very good move on their part.  The narrow primary works well on the low.
But don't plan on taking your custom derby cover off your old bike to put on this one...the new ones are significantly bigger.  I thought it was an optical illusion when I went to put mine on the new bike, and even after holding it up against it, I still thought it was going to fit.  I took the stock one off and tried putting my old one on there...not even close to fitting.
