Tour pack relocation
« on: October 17, 2010, 09:29:01 PM »

Want to move tour pack back 2 inches. Dealer checked and said tour pack is all the way back. They also said Kuriakyn didn't list a re-locator for the 2011 FLTRUSE. Any suggestions?

Call George Anderson and get his relo kit.  Just put it on my '11 RUSE last week.  Have it on my '07 CUSE also.  Wouldn't ride without it.  It makes a world of difference in comfort for my bsr.

I called George on Wednesday last week. He shipped my relocation kit the same day. I received it on Friday and installed it today. I took me all of 30 minutes and I was being real slow and careful. I set the relocation for the full 2.5in backset. My BSR can sit in comfort now and she's not having to jam my backreset into my back.

This is a quality piece of hardware, easy to install and highly recommended. I'd like to thank "Ultrafxr" for pushing me over the edge by recommending this hardware highly to me. Simply stated, he was right.

Hey Simon.  Glad you (and your bsr) like it.  George is good people and while his kit is not cheap you get your money's worth.  It will last as long (heck probably longer) than your bike.   :2vrolijk_21:

So what all does it take to install it? Heck I want it just to be able to have more room for more luggage on my bike!!

Socket Wrench
Socket Wrench Extender (for inside the TourPak)
Blue Loctite
A person to help prop up the TourPak at a 60 degree angle once you remove the fastening bolts
Perhaps a Phillips screwdriver (depends on the placement of your ground wire)

That's it.

Want to move tour pack back 2 inches. Dealer checked and said tour pack is all the way back. They also said Kuriakyn didn't list a re-locator for the 2011 FLTRUSE. Any suggestions?

Just a suggestion and much lower cost but not sure about the '11 and workings on it.  I had to take a T.P. from and '09 FLHTCUSE and relocate on my '01 FLTRSEI2 and noone made one, contacted George Anderson but the problem was the holes in the T.P. to mount were at different centers.  I ordered a bottom T.P. plate about $17 punched the screws out of it and the one in my T.P.....drilled a series of holes in it to mount to stock T.P. mount, they lined up in bottom groove, mounted it to my detachable rack and then ran my bolts through the plate in my T.P. to the plate on my rack and there it was pluse it provides a solid base on the bottom of the tour pak, put some acorn nuts on the 6 bolts and away i went.....

George's kit is the best. Perhaps the easiest mod and infinitely easier than the Kuryakyn Tourpak relocator I installed on the previous 08 ultra.

Have George's kit on my SEURG.  The wife really appreciated the extra room.  The relo kit is a quality piece of work too and George is a great guy to deal with.

are there any issues with wiring...not being long enough to extend 2 more inches on the RGU??? Also i am guessing you don't have to drill any holes or anything.......correct??

Received kit from George before he had received the check, installed the kit with BOSS and took less than 15 minutes including with adjusting to the middle location from the front location.  Plenty of wire, easy install, looks great, and most important BOSS is happy.  NO PICS

There's no drilling to do.  you mount the bracket over the OEM holes and then mount the TP to George's bracket.  As far as wiring, there's plenty and George even tells you in the instructions what to do with the wiring, just in case.

Let me know if you need a hand, I am just up the road 15 minutes from you and have installed many of Georges kits.   BTW did you buy the kit from Seminole they are now carrying them?

Installed one of George's kits after the recommendations on here, and it is GREAT.
A matter of a few minutes to install and it is built to last!
Quality, design and finish are all 100% top shelf.

Finally got the bride out for her first ride on the 011 RG yesterday, she weighs 110 lb., she had no room, and the back rest cut into her legs. We stopped and removed the back rest, that helped a bit, but did little for my comfort. Luckily I had followed the concerns and advise on this site and had George Anderson send me his relocation plate, while we were in Myrtle Beach this March. I just installed it, by myself, took about 20 minutes. Before, the tour pac was 9 1/4 inches from the back rest, now were about 11 inches. I measured the distance on my 06 CVO, it was 10 1/2 inches. The problem with the 011 appears to be the adjustables lumbar support, it takes up a lot of room back there. Who the heck comes up with these ideas, then who at MOCO tests them? Like I said, the wife is petite, and had no room and no comfort, this could be a banner year for George Anderson.

Just wondering if the George Andersen kit raises the tour pak height?

The plate is about 1/4" thick or maybe a tad more. The tour pak height dimension doesn't change but the top of the tour pak will be higher by that plate thickness .. (stickler for accuracy in descriptions) ;)

Another, 3 sets of holes for positioning, in combination with the 2 sets of holes already on the tourpack, makes it very configurable.

AJ

Hmm.. part#: RK-SE looks like it could be the George Anderson Relocator only more expensive.

Here is another link of someone who sells the kit and takes PayPal but I recommend just going direct with George.

I guess you could write him by snail mail...if he has an e-mail address, I've not seen it.  He's good about returning phone calls, at least here, but being overseas may be a different story.

Whatever you've got to do to get in touch with him, it's worth it.  I just installed his plate and it is a quality piece...took all of 15 minutes with a bit of help from my wife to hold the TP up while I bolted the plate down.

Just put the relocation bracket on my '11 RGU from George. Great guy to deal with. Check and bracket crossed in the mail. Went on as easy as described. Everyone was tied up so I sat the TP forward on the seat and di the install solo. BSR loves the extra room to stretch her legs without kciking me in the calf. 8)

I ordered George's relocation plate from www.tourpak.com.  I ordered it on Friday and it was in the mailbox on Monday.  Las Vegas to KY!.  The web site takes credit cards and PayPal.  Installed it in 20 minutes and my wife LOVES it.  She said it was definetly worth the $186.95.

You could have gotten it directly from George for $175 (shipping included), and you would have had it almost before you wrote the check.  (He ships it almost immediately after you order it.) :nixweiss:

It must be aluminum...I just tried to stick one of those small magnetic levels to it and it wouldn't stick.

Hey Guys,
Kuryakyn does make a wonderful tour pack relocater. I had it instaled on my CVO 2011 Road Glide Ultra. Works great with a
full 6 inch "back and forth travel. Check into it. Papadoc

I recently upgraded from a 2011 FLTRU and assumed the passenger seat space would be the same... but it's not and looks to be a few inches shorter back there. There isn't a lot of space for my wife with the driver's backrest in place, and I ended up buying George's relocation kit. The install took about 25 min and my wife is very happy now. There's a bit of an ugly gap where the fender shows through between the seat and backrest, but not a big deal.

It would have been nice if HD thought of this and built in some adjustability, but the kit worked very well and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

BTW, George was great to work with and very helpful. I ordered the kit on Friday and got it on Monday.

I agree, especially if you put the TP back in the 2.5" position.  At 1.5", it's not too bad.  It would probably be possible to go to an upholstery shop and have a thicker hang down pad thingy made to better fill in the gap better, but I'm not sure that would work in the long run.

You can bet that HD has noticed the TP relocation issue...if they ever offer one, it'll be $299 for the black version, and $399 for the Stealth Chrome version.

Just put the kuryakyn adjustable on my eg ultra. It is stated that it won't fit but it does without any mods. It's a bit tight next to the boom system, but it clears with about 1/16 inch to spare.

Talked to George today for a while, ordered from him at $165.00 shipping included.  Cool guy to talk with, learned all about him, retired pattern maker, his friend does all his CNC work on the kits then he gets them powder coated and ships them.  Very trusting soul, shipping Monday prior to check arriving, you have got to love dealing with such a great guy.

Cannot wait to get it, was going to make my own modeled after his, but after talking to him decided to buy his.

Kuryakyn makes a filler pad to go along with their re-locater kit. I have George's re-locater on mine but i filled the gap between the seat and TP with the Kuryakyn filler pad. My T/P is set back 2" and the you can hardly see the filler pad.

I just put a kury on my 2011 road glide ultra. It will adjust up to 5 in. And even though they say it won't fit with the boom system, it will with no mods.
