Tour Pak Quick Release on 2011 RGU
« on: February 09, 2011, 07:01:11 PM »

Thinking about installing the hardware to make the tour pak a quick release unit.
Has anyone here done the work themselves? If so, what were the part numbers you used?

The dealer wants about $800-900 to do it.

I did this mod on my 06 RG, it was straight forward, I recall the only parts needed are the quick release docking kit for your fender, and the quick release bracket for your tour pack.  I have thought about this on my 11RGUSE but I don't want to give up the amp and I am not crazy about relocating to the saddle bag...

Didn't know that the amp would have to be relocated in order to do this. I know that there is a kit to relocate the antenna's that are attached to the tour pak.

I'll have to look into it some more.

Thanks

I was looking into this also. It would be a whole lot simpler if you could unplug all the wires under the seat. All the wires look to run out of the tour-pak and and then all the way to the front of the bike. No connections under the seat. :nixweiss: If you could cut the wires and put the same style connectors that HD uses, it could work.
I was looking at a thread on this site and someone did it but said you need to store all the wires under the seat.
I'm not sure if they can all fit under there. The other problem is that the amp would need to be turned so the connector comes towards the seat because the detachable rack is too narrow.

I am going through this right now. I am working with Jim, (hd-dude) to have everything done.
To resolve the Amp issue we (he is) are changing to the Hawg Wired 4 channel amp and putting that on the radio. He is also going to swap my speakers for the HW ones with the Road Glide Tweeters. Moving the Radio antenna to the hidden one under the fairing as well to eliminate that concern. The parts order just went in today so I should be able to get it done after next week. I also need to order the George Anderson TP reloacation kit which I will do today or tomorrow.  :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: So basiclly I was able to hold off a total of 1 month, 8 days before I booked my first modifications.

Unfortunately starting in 2009 they are different. I think that is the year that they went to the 200 rear tire. You should post it in the selling section though.
