In one respect, HD has made it much easier to make the tour pak detachable on your bike:  HD now sells the same amp used on your bike that's mounted under the fairing, as an in-fairing accessory; here's a link to the installation instructions:

The accessory amp will allow you retain the same audio that you presently have, though you will need to adapt the wiring; pretty straightforward with the wiring diagrams in the service manuals.  Of course, there are better amps available to use in the fairing in place of the HD amp.

HD offers detachable tour pak kits for non-CVO Ultras which would provide most of the parts necessary, and instructions for disconnecting the audio and electrical at the tour pak with the exception of the power lock.  Here's the installation instructions:

With the 2011 HD Touring Service Manual and the SM supplement for your '11 CVO RGU, the project is very doable.  Yes, you will spend $$$ for a solo seat, detachable hardware, etc.  But given your strong preference for riding the bike w/o the tour pak on the bike, it seems like a worthwhile undertaking--I know I enjoy my '04 w/o the tour pak on the bike, and appreciate the convenience of installing the tour pak for long trips.

Suggestion:  Buy the SM's from HD and review the relevant portions dealing with the tour pak's electrical and audio, as well as the instructions provided above.  They will probably provide you with a good understanding of 95% of what's involved, and make it easier for you to talk to those who have already done the job.

Personally, a Rio Red CVO RGU set-up w/a solo seat and no tour pak looks killer.

I did mine at home in the garage.. I just found connectors with the appropriate number of pins & made mine quick disconnect. Replaced amp with J&M & ride it with a solo seat. The bike feels so much better w/o the tp on it!

See, I think your bike looks better than the 2012 SERGC.  That's what I want, and in the Rio Red, like the comment above, would look killer!  Still don't feel comfortable doing the electronics myself.  I have to try and find someone here in Michigan that's good with that stuff.  The hardware portion is simple.

I did most of this in 3 hours. Will finish electrical this week, once I get the disconnect connector. Love it and no big deal. Put amp in right saddle bag.

Man, I want to do this in the worst way!  I am sending my bags to EXTREME, they are going to stretch them and paint them along with the rear fender extention.  I would love to make the tour pack removable, it would be like having two bikes!  I think I just may say screw it, the quick and do away with the HD amp under the tourpack and screw the functionality of the communication system I never use it anyway.  Put a 4-channel amp under the fairing and have a quick disconnect for the rear speakers and be done with it.  If I ever sell the bike, the new owner would probably appreciate the versitility more than the communication system anyway!

I did the quick disconnect TP thing and added a Street Glide seat to my 2013 SEUC.
The stock amp was moved to the right saddlebag and it slid down into the front of the saddlebag liner and was nice and snug without having to attach it.
The amp wire harness was long enough and flexible enough so I could flatten it out a bit to curve over the rim of the saddlebag and the bag lid would close and latch with no problem. I've attached a pic.

  I'm reading your post for the first time. As the owner of an '11 FLTRUSE, I want the tour pack off much of the time. It's VERY complicated. I have done it by hand to see what it looks like but there were many small issues remaining when I did. Would you mind letting me know where you're at in the process?

Just wait until you see all the damn factory stickers on the fender under the seat. Have thought about doing it on mine too.

Hey Teemo, what color is your Corbin seat?...I'm thinking about this and I like the redish color you have on the bottom of yours.
