Got my CVO RG
« on: September 26, 2014, 07:14:33 PM »

Dealer delivered yesterday.  Got to ride it about 100 miles today.  Had the handlebars moved up before delivery.  So far the seat is uncomfortable and it seems to sit lower than my Limited did.  Other than that it's good.

Got my TTS and DX pipe in today but also ordered the screen to wrap the packing in  so the 2" baffles are a little quiter at 3thousand rpm and Scott says it makes a little more power. guess I'm getting a little too old for the noise.

Picked mine up this morning  8) Hog Pro wheels, detach TP Kit, Mustang solo, flame theme, bars rolled up, custom plate mount, windsplitter (not sure about this one, might have to get another windvest), plus some other stuff - performance upgrades later after break in. Cheers!

Getting ready to do very similar to mine as far as remove tour pack for local, not sure if going to go solo like my last two or just use a Street glide seat when local.  I never have a passenger, so I may run the solo seat and put the King tour pack in the solo position like my 12 was and my 9 was.

Since yesterday I have a few questions for you.  Are you going to run the Tourpack in the solo position when you have it on?  If so could you post a picture of it on in the solo spot, and can you use the tp back rest?

Is that the HD wind splitter?  How tall?  how does it compare to stock?  How tall are you?

Thanks

Day I picked up the bike I did a complete Fullsac exhaust an TTS Master tune with Map.  I also did custom dynamic Halo Ringz up front and red LEDs in the rear bullets and a Custom Dynamics module to make the bullets run, brake and turn, add a module for the tour pack too.  Then the chrome trim for the Tour pack light bar, and new saddle bag latches with out reflectors in them.  Also removed the rear bag guards and put bag supports on.

Setting up the tour pack to be able to be removed is the next project.  Not sure if solo set up or not yet.  Will also replace rear floor boards with foot pegs or nothing.  Depending on how these bars feel on a 600 mile day, it may well get 14" Monkey bars  like my CVO King has, and like my Skunk had.

The more i ride this bike more i'am really liking it. My wife says its UGLY & its plain looking, and that my 14 CVO Blue Limited looked better. I kinda agree with her on the paint scheme as its kind of plain looking for being a CVO. I think HD could of done better. But i still like it the more i ride it. Just waiting on my TTS tuner to come back from getting the Dual upgrade done. Then the DX pipe goes on. Also the seating position is different than on previous bike. I think the seat on my Limited was more comfortable....Other than that i'm keeping this one for a long time...

MOCO seems to think RG Ultra riders are conservative old men who like stately or demure colors. I wish I fit on a Street Glide I love their paint schemes.

Sad but true the CVO Road Glide Ultra's both in 2011 and now in 2015 have the plainest most conservative paint job of any of the CVO's  Not sure why they will not do nice graphics like they have done on the 14 and 15 limited, or the Bat Wing CVO ultras at least.

The road glide is the best touring bike harley makes in my opinion.

Hi Dave, thanks for the replies - had a busy day Saturday and then yesterday went with a group to the Oyster Run bike rally in Anacortes, WA, pretty good day, foggy in the morning but sunny after that, people were saying about 15 to 20,000 bikes showed up - mine was the only 2015 fltruse that we saw which seemed a little odd as I was hoping to see the other colors. To your questions - my wife and I ride two up when I'm not riding solo so can't help with the solo / KTP set up. I'm 6'1" (32" inseam) and the windshield is the 12" windsplitter ($238?), took a chance and threw it on Friday night since the local MD had one, but it's not the right windshield for me, too much wind in the face for my liking and not nearly as functional or cool as the recurve Windvest that I had on my 08 Fltr. I'll be looking for another solution for sure.

As to the comments on this string regarding the colors - I wasn't sure about blue myself but without seeing one in real life and after seeing those initial (not very good) profile only photos on the HD website I selected the blue and so far I am loving it. At sunset and sunrise the bike appears to be a deep purple and people riding behind thought maybe even "blackened purple", during high noon it absolutely pops brightly but still seems to change as you walk around it. Everyone that saw the bike was blown away with the color and the bike - 2 others in our group have already stated their intention trade in their CUSE's and try and find other 2015 Fltruse bikes.

The bike rides so well compared to my 13 Cuse8, I will definitely be hitting the road more often. So far, so good.

Looking forward to seeing some photos of these mods, they sound great. Also, if you happen to post a video or audio file of your bike with the Fullsac, that would be awesome, I'm trying to figure out which way to go in that regard myself (always have done 2 into 1's, usually a VH Pro Pipe or D&D). Thanks Dave

Now we just need to figure out how to get the tag mounted below the light bar. Going to try a HD#67900008 tag bracket but I don't know if a light bar on a 2015 CVO RG Ultra is the same as a '14 SG, RK or a standard RG.

Is this some sort of optical illusion? is the solo seat further back than the stock seat or did you move the tourpak up closer to close out the space normally used by the BSR?

How about some close up to highlight the different in seating position(if any) for the driver with the Mustang Solo versus the CVO Seat provided with the bike.

Thanks, DH

I am looking into running my King tour pack in solo like yours.  On my last two bikes I ran a chopped in the solo.

I am sure that is on the solo quick detach mount correct?  Is the tour pack bolted in the normal holes on the rack?  Are you using the original holes in the King pack?

It does not look like your using the king pack as your back rest correct?

Would it be possible to mount the king on the solo so you could use the king back rest?

Any issues opening your bag lids?  Does the bag light still shine into the bag?

Thank you in advance for all the answers.

Now we just need to figure out how to get the tag mounted below the light bar. Going to try a HD#67900008 tag bracket but I don't know if a light bar on a 2015 CVO RG Ultra is the same as a '14 SG, RK or a standard RG.

That tag bracket will work. I put that tag bracket on my 2014 CVO Ultra Limited. The 2015 CVO RG Ultra has the same light bar as the 2014/15 CVO Ultra Limited. I had to grind some of the material around the eyelets where the bolts go through to hold it onto the light bar. I also used the Kuryakyn Curved Lighted LED License Plate Frame CVO Road/ Street Glides #3144 that I wired into the harness for the plate light. I would post pictures but I traded the bike in already for 2015 CVO RG Ultra that is not here yet.

We did use the solo bracket on the king tour pac using all factory holes, no drilling required. The mustang backrest supports your lower back so once you adjust the mustang backrest you have 3/4 of an inch to move the tour pac to support your upper back and shoulders. If you need more adjustment simply order a George Anderson plate to have a total adjustment of 3" but for all of us, 5'9 to 5'11 we were able to find a position that worked well. You get the full benefit of rear speakers and the comfort of full support from you lower back to almost your shoulders. We only take trips nowadays from Bama to Montana and beyond and this setup worked well on our old CVO SG's and Roadglides and fits great on these 2015's as well. The HD tag bracket 67900008 did work fine with a little grinding around the mounting holes which are out of site. Here's some more pics and I will be doing my Big Blue one when the parts arrive.

Lids do close easily if you close the latch once it clears the tour pac. Lamps work fine

You know I gotta say that I REALLY REALLY HATE THIS WEBSITE!!!!!!
Well, let me rephrase, my wallet hates this website.

No matter how much I swear I am going to keep it simple this time around. (Yes I have a bike coming..) Let's just install some rear shocks, maybe Bitubos and call it quits. Well, you know, an extra 10hp and some torgue would be nice. Maybe a Fullsac DX Pipe, 1.75" Cores and a tuner is worth it. Oh and some LED bullet lights/turn signals and then whatever it is that makes the brakes flash intermittently when activated.

Now THIS! Dammit, I ride solo like 97% of the time. Now I'm looking at Mustang Solo Seat w Backrest, Solo Detach Mount and Bracket.

Criminey, when will this obsession end?

You need solo bracket, docking kit, tag bracket 67900008 and stubby antennas keeps them ou of you face. All bolt on but you need to trim the tag bracket at the mounting holes.

Oh I forgot, I'm waing on my solo seat, backrest and rear seat pillion to be made by Corbin because they offer the same style solo in a heated seat. You can check out the Classic Solo on their website. Takes about 4 weeks because they build everything out of the same cut of leather.

Does the wiring need a disconnect or is that already on the bike as shipped?

All the wiring including the antenna cables from the harness to the tour pack use connectors and roll up nicely to fit under the seat. When I did mine I removed the saddlebag latch locks wiring from the harness just under the seat. I rerouted the latch lock wiring behind the chrome rails that run along side the top of the fender. It gives it a nice clean look and makes it easier when you pull the tour pack off.

I already have the tag bracket for a Street glide, a lighted plate frame, a corbin solo seat and oval back rest.  Looks like I will be ordering two point docking hard ware and the solo tour pack mount.  My last two road glides I ran the chopped in the solo, so it still looks good with the king and weight distribution is better.  I ride solo, as my wife has her own bikes.

Even though these King Tour Pacs will hold two full helmets they don't look as bulky as the old style Kings. I also did my 09' CVO RG with the solo and Chopped tour pac but I think these look good moved up and you can put a ton in them and they are very very Comfortable

So a semi-hijack but I was curious on the long trips to Montana and beyond, what do you use for storage? Do you get everything into the saddlebags and tourpak or do you also tie down some kind of a bag to the luggage rack? Even though I ride solo, I fill both saddlebags, the tourpak and then use a Kuryakyn Bag that stores in the BSR position. I don't put anything on the luggage rack usually.

We made the sales lady @ Pelham Heart of Dixie HD very happy last week.

I notice the 3 flavors of CVO RG in the picture plus a "limited"? Did each of you buy a bike that day? Or just the Blue and Red CVO RGs ?

Simon, I don't know if you noticed it but i use my king tourpak in the solo position for the MV trips.
I use the tourpak for clothes, left bag for bike stuff, right bag for a laptop, small miscellaneous items and some extra room.

I stuff my rain gear in a bag an keep that stuffed in the space between the solo seat and tourpak, also stuff the half cover in that same location.
I don't load the rack, but keep a spider strap handy and use the rack for the times the jacket comes off.

Takes me 10 minutes to switch the tourpak from the 2 up bracket to the solo quick detach bracket.

I like the way it looks as well in the solo position.

Appreciate the response Duane. Economy in packing is the key. I have used the luggage rack for my heavy coat as well when the sun comes out a shining. I tend to carry a little more gear in my saddlebags maybe than most. Spare gallon of gas, toolkit, 3 kinds of gloves, heated vest/glooves, rain gear (like your suggestion), microfiber cloth, cleaning products, bungee cords ... to name most of them. Plus I have added need for a C-PAP machine that while small still takes up space equivalent to a pair of shoes. I think I will figure out how to reduce my load and maybe compress some of it into smaller packaging cause that solo setup sure looks comfortable.

Simon, the solo position makes a bit more of a challenge getting on the bike, especially with the speaker pods. Something to consider.

We should have had Jillian give lessons at MV. She has been on the road for quite some time and seems to have far less stuff then most of us brought for a week. And she's packing for two  :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. Could be interesting for someone my size. As it is I rub against the backrest usually when stepping into the seat.

I think I need to consider that between my 2007 and 2011 Road Glides I put on 95k miles with only a simple backrest and seemed very comfortable at the time. :D

okmtnbody,

Looks like you are running 4-point Docking hardware correct?  I have searched on line and the part's catalog, does not look like the two point is available for 14 and newer.

Is that why you are using 4 point?  I used the two point to run the Tour pack solo as it was much neater.

Has any seen a two point for the 2014 or 2015 bikes?

Beautiful job on your Blue FLTRUSE  Im planning to do the same. remove the baby seat and make it detachable. I missed out on a blue 1 this week. Thinking about the carbon dust and autumn sunset (orange and blk). I like the Street Glide CVO colors and the bike is set up more my style.. Only need the tour pack once or twice a year. Concerned alittle about bottoming out on the Street Glide though when im 2 up.. Any advice.....   ??? ???

Deserthog, we bought a 3 bikes within a couple of weeks. As far as packing up we all run the matching HD suitcases that fits the air wing luggage rack for extra storage and we sometimes wash clothes at hotels and also we ship anything we buy at the local post office "if it fits it ships".

Yeah, I can see how that would make the sales lady really really happy. I am surprised that they even had 2 or 3 CVO Ultra Road Glides in the showroom to offer you.

DH, our local dealer has two dealerships here south of Birmingham Al. And they sell quite a few HD's and have a good relationship with a lot of dealers. They had the Blk/gold in stock and picked up the Red and the Blue with in a few days. Good people to deal with and they take care of their loyal customers.

We are running the 4 point Dave .

Figured you had to be.  Check on HD parts and no two point listed for the 14-15 model years.  Sure wish they would make a 2-point as it was much cleaner on my 09SERG, and 12 SERG and on my 13 CVO King.

Today I ordered the 4 point detachable hardware and the solo tour pack mounting rack.

I decided to go with the Corbin heated seat because Mustang does not make a heated Solo. Glad I did.

Looks good.  When I am in Daytona I am going to stop by Corbin, and ask if the heated can be added to my existing corbin solo seat.

I like the key setup with Corbin instead of dealing with the Mustang 5/8 nuts because every time you remove the seat it's a chance to scratch the rear fender. I have not decided which backrest is better.

I do like the corbin solo and the Key to remove the seat, Ran it on my 12 CVO road glide for 45,540 miles. :coolblue:
