replacement ECM
« on: May 25, 2022, 02:10:26 PM »

One of the kids has a 2006 that acts like the ECM may be damaged by previous owners stupidity..  [like home made true dual kit that looks like a 5 year old welded it..] engine is a last round factory reman engine with very few miles since [documents show a few hundred].  however, it appears that HD has made the ECM obsolete.. so now what? thoughts?   its 900 plus for a aftermarket ECM.. near that for all the stuff to carb convert? the bike is perfectly fine other than moronic tune issues...

if we have to carb convert does anybody know of words and music?

thanks in advance

Surdyke shows that part 32534-11 as active?
More often it's a connector/pin/wiring issue, than an actual bad ECM. (The factory flowchart always points to a bad ECM, because they assume a good wiring harness & connectors)

That 32534-11 is a blank ECM that a dealer will have to program to your bike.  A local here had to do that a few months ago so the hardware can be bought.  The problem here was that the two dealers closest to my buddy both said some version of obsolete when the issue was they didn't know how or didn't want to mess with programming the new module.  Finding good used OE units on eBay or elsewhere can also be worth pursuing.  No matter what replacement method one might pursue if you've worked on your bike and ever done any tuning all that will have to be done again as well.

I may have a slightly used Thunder Max ECM in my arsenal. I need the model of the bike if you are interested. This may be your best bet for a tuner/ECM for a 2006.
