Upgrading Ultra Handlebars
« on: November 16, 2007, 07:42:45 PM »

Wanting to change the handlebars on my '07 Ultra to primarily hide the wiring.  Also planning on installing new Diamondback braided front and rear brake lines.

I realize many here are very happy with the WO575 bars, but I'm seriously considering the stock CUSE bars from an '07 or '06 model.  Bud has an '06 CUSE and I like the feel and position of his bars very much.  They appear to be wider than the stock Ultra bars, and if I'm thinking correctly, my stock clutch and throttle cables would work with the CUSE handlebar.

Can anyone verify that the '06 and '07 CUSEs came from the factory with the same handlebar?

If they are the same, I would be very interested in purchasing a set from anyone that's upgraded to the WO575s.

Finally, should I also consider installing the '08 one-piece top clamp with a CUSE handlebar upgrade?

Thanks muchly!

The bars on the standard Ultras are the same as the SE models with the exception of the SE bars are chrome plated. Perhaps the bars on the ultra you liked were turned back a bit?

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum.............

My bud's '06 CUSE is sitting in my garage with my '07 Ultra, and his CUSE's bars just looked fatter; and they felt better.  Could be they're just back a bit as you suggested.

Doing some research on factory bars, the stock Ultra bars are #55924-97.  Chrome replacements are #56625-99.....about $50.00.  Per Dealer's Parts Tech, the '07 CUSE uses bar #56007-04 which is the same bar that was introduced on the '04 SEEG.  About $140.00.  With the big difference in price, I thought there was significant difference in stock Ultra bars and the SEEG/CUSE bars.

I have considered changing out to the WO575s, but dread taking the time to pull the exhaust to change the Clutch Cable along with the additional costs for braided clutch and throttle/idle cables.  Might wait for dead of winter and go the full route of braided everything along with the 575s.

If you find time to quote me some prices, just pm at your convience.

Thanks for your help!   :2vrolijk_21:

Saw those prices.......wasn't sure of the source.......

Course, with a non-CVO Ultra I'm looking at replacing all hoses/cables with the 575s.  Using the stock CVO bars wouldn't require that.
