Anyone tried the HD jeans?
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:41:45 AM »

Thinking about buying a couple pair. I can't get Levi's to last more than 1 year..................they're cheap crap now. Nothing like when I was a kid.

I know what you mean.  Jeans don't hold up at all like they used to.  Can't be the higher load being applie.......   ah, never mind ::) .

I bought a couple pair last year - one black and one blue.  They have an odd fit for me, but they serve a purpose.  They sit higher than comparable Levis (belly button level, or maybe a tad higher), and if I wear a size that fits around my belly (about a 38 now), they are fairly baggy in the seat/crotch area - better for comfortable riding than other jeans that I have.  That said, off the bike, they look kinda frumpy.

HA, that's what my wife said too!!!! I did a little reseach and Levi's changed the way they make their jeans sometime in the early 80's.

I had to prove to her and myself it wasn't my fat ass effect!! Any excuse will do.

You make them sound like my Carhart work jeans. High waist and heavy material.

Maybe I was too harsh.  They don't quite make you look like an old farmer with jeans hiked up to your armpits.  They are more comfortable on the bike, but whether they are more or less stylish is a matter of opinion, I suppose.

I haven't tried the HD jeans but i wonder how these would compare for wear and fit on a bike:

Those are what I wear.  TC from this site pointed them out several years ago and I stopped at their store in TN on the way to Maggie Valley that year.  Came away with five or six pair and am still wearing them.  In fact they've been my only jeans since them.  They've worn very well and they're comfortable.  That little extra patch of material to give The Boys a little extra space makes a surprising difference.

I've got two pair of their jeans that have only within the last six weeks worn through the knees.  But they are the pairs I've worn most commonly.  They've probably been used at least a couple days a week every week for two and a half years.

We joke about The Boys but, hey, they ride too.  And since they don't really get to see out we might as well make them comfortable.

All kidding aside these jeans are good for comfort, wear and appearance.  They look like normal jeans.  Aren't incredibly heavy.  And The Boys are happy :bananarock: .

Seriously, I have worn the HD jeans for several years and like them. Pretty personalized thing depending on your anatomy.

I wear Wranglers for riding, they are cheap & heavy duty, and they are easy to find.  The ONLY jeans I wear.

I got 2 pairs in August last year and have only put my Levi's back on to do yard work since! I love the fit and feel and yes the boys do to. I am impressed because I am hard on my jeans and a big boy! They seem to be as comfortable as cargo pants when riding and the damn legs don't blow up to your crotch like cargo pants. I have always ridden in jeans but after a few 100 degrees days I started looking for a little cooler pants. I reccommend the HD jeans.  :2vrolijk_21: Oh yeah tight pants don't flatter my physic anyway  :bananarock:

I'll agree on the Levi's.....they went ta "chit" a long time ago! I, myself wear Carhart's most o' the time,however.....taper on the Carharts'll only go over lace-up style boots....my preferrance are Wrangler Pro Rodeo's....like those the best. Broth/law(FATHERTIME) swears the HD jeans are the best he's ever worn, but, like most here, will only buy them "on sale".....just my thoughts, guys  :nixweiss:

I was going to use my 20% off at the dealership. Otherwise they seem a little high for non designer jeans.

Had a pair once ( HD jeans ) they lasted about 1 1/2 months!!! They did feel and fit great, but developed two tears
where the back pocket attaches to the jean up to the belt loops. Maybe it was just a flaw in the jeans, but when
my buddy told me the same thing happened to two pairs of his I new they were crap. Sorry just my .02 cents.
I wear Levi or Wrangler with very good results.

Jo, you must have gotten the NY style.
I have about 4 pair each of 3 different sizes. ( Fat, fatter and fattest )They are the only ones I buy anymore. They fit and wear well, and you can't beat the extra room for the boys.

I bought the Kirklands from Costco 34/32 for cheapo to work in and was surprised by the fit and quality compared to Levi's especially for the price.  They are the looser fit not baggy.  I could use a 34/33 or 34/34 for my ridin boots (Western style). Plus a longer length while scootin looks better than high waters.  I have Levi bootcuts 34/32 for most ridin, but have the Plumber's ass when I squat to check my oil.  (If I'd just got a new one when the crack was first discovered.)  The Kirkland's don't give me the Moose Knuckle when sittin either.

Have worn the "relaxed leg" version for several years as an every day jean and have had good results with both fit and durability. Made in Mexico of USA materials on inner tag, at least it is not chinkland! On the bike I tend to wear the wonderful Diamond Gusset Defender jeans with the Kevlar inserts in the seat and Knees. They have cool stitching around the Kevlar and people ask about it. Sometimes (if I'm sure they don't have a gun) I'll say "go ahead shoot me in the knees or ass its Kevlar"! Of course knowing full well the Kevlar is for abrasion resistance and not for testing ballistics... ;D

All I wear.  No complaints.  About 3 or 4 years ago, they changed a lot, but they still seem to be good. 20% off and they are a great value.

For the most part all I wear is HD jeans.  Very comfortable, don't "ride" up when I'm on the bike and the legs are cut a little longer so they stay lower on the boot when riding.  And the price is comparable to the other name-brand jeans.

In an earlier post there was a link that showed which jeans are made in the USA. Does anyone know who makes HD jeans and are they made in the USA.

I'm really trying to buy only things made in the USA. That doesn't mean they have their HQ here and made offshore but really manufactured here!!! Now is a good time to show loyalty to the American worker even if it costs more.

Sorry for the rant but buying things made elsewhere is just bringing our economy to it's knees and making the top execs richer at the expense of the middle class.

I'm thinking about trying a pair of the H-D jeans too. I just have not had the time to get there to try em on.  I do like the Old Navy jeans esp. when they are on sale or at the outlet. They usually run about $15-$20 if you catch them on sale.

I have two pairs of H-D jeans, purchased on sale about eighteen months ago. They are comfortable and, thus far, wearing well. I wear each pair about once a week.

  Current* and previous jean inventory:
Cabela's
Carhart
Diamond Gusset*
H-D*
L.L. Bean > Flannel Lined*
Lee
Wrangler*

Diamond Gusset jeans are, by far, the most comfortable for riding, in my humble opinion.

If you have never tried Flannel Lined jeans, for riding in temperatures below 50, I suggest trying them today.
You will immediately question yourself, "Why did I not try these years before?"

Be safe. Ride often,

Wife bought me some HD jeans awhile ago & they must be the extra room all over model.Kind of light weight & the legs are so big they want to flap me crazy.Gusset jeans don't work for me 'cause the seam where the gusset is stitched in hits me in a very tender spot.Levies & Wrangler are getting so I can't just buy the size I think I need 'cause the size isn't true any more. Not just to tight that some of you are thinking but some are to big.I ware size 36, but 38s are so comfortable that I buy 40s.

Hey guys.  Boxers or briefs when riding?  No, please, I don't really want to know.  This thread is pretty amusing to say the least.  If you really want the boys to breathe, just chaps...nothing else.  Ride fast, very fast, past the police though.

Rokkers only - when riding.

H-D jeans are comfortable too but they offer no protection.
