2013 Road King Tour Pak install

(1/2) > >>

andy.blumberg73:
Anyone have any good sources for what would be required and how to install a detachable tour pak to my 2013 FLHRSE5?
I have done a bit of searching but haven't found much....
It is my understand that Harley has stopped supplying pre-2014 Tour Paks.  I am looking at used and aftermarket.  I have found a local painter that I believe can match my Obsidian Gray well enough.
Just trying to figure out  what additional pieces I am going to need and how much work it is going to be...
Thanks for any input.

Try Ebay and Advanblack. Shouldn't be too tough. Let us know how it turns out.

plus quick release mounting hardware from Harley

Twolanerider:
Don't completely discount the newer tour paks.  I (just one dude's opinion) prefer the looks of the newer paks and their hardware.  So when wanting to add a razor sized pak to my old 02 Road King a couple years ago just got the detachable rack that was correct for the bike and the newer tour pak.

Nothing special about the mounting.  A couple holes to drill and a couple spacers to add.  All good.

where did you get the idea that they aren't supplying pre-2014?  they are still in the 2020 parts and accessories catalog.

there is an argument to be made for the newer style, they do hold a bit more and do have a more 'modern' look to them.  but, if you don't have to have that, nothing wrong with the pre rushmore either.  i just had my 2012 tour pack repainted in vivid black so i can use it on my 2019 rgs.  yeah, it isn't the latest and greatest, but i only use it a couple of times per year so i'm okay with that.

also, when you compare the cost of an advanblack tour pack to the cost of factory hd, cvo paint notwithstanding, there is not much of a delta between them.  especially if you use the aftermarket mounting systems with the hd pack.  for example, a chopped (though king is the same cost) tour pack for my wife's bike has an msrp of $849.  i can get it from a discounter for $706.  the same one from advanblack is $769.  but it does come with the backrest while the hd one i would have to add that.  for the difference in cost, i would go with genuine hd.

On the Harley parts web site (https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/en/shop/c/motorcycle-parts), if you do a search for tour pak for 2014 road king ten (10) different tour paks come up.  If you do a search for tour pak for 2013 road king none of the hard tour paks come up.

No parts books out at the dealerships anymore, and the lines have been too long when I have been in to ask anyone in person....
