George~~~  Tim I'll bet you he bought it fron a guy named Grant. I offered him more but he wouldn't sell it to me for 12,500. So now he sells it for less. I soften him and another gets the kill. Go figure. Just my luck!!!

Wait, wait, wait.....ummmmm ok but what did he buy?????   I am still lost here.....what model bike, ie: FXR2 or FXR3 or FXR4 and there were only 2,160 miles on it?

He purchased a ______________ for $10,600 which had 2,160 miles and the color was _________.

George you were quite busy while asking all of those questions a couple weeks ago.....lol how many FXR2's, FXR3's, or FXR4's did you see?????

Regards,

Tim

Hey All, Tim, It's a FXR2, The previous owners Dads bike. A beautiful Machine with all that he described. What a Great deal!!!!   I didn't see the bike but I'm sure it is in "LIKE NEW" condition. I'm glad someone got a great deal.

Best, George

So George how did you know about the bike? Was it in a ad?

Does anyone even the new owner know what color?  [lol]

George my friend...Dude!...Sounds like to me that YOU are the one who IS the LUCKY one. Man, because this fella wouldn't accept your offer; you went down another road and lo and behold you end up purchasing what I suspect may be one of the rarest bikes HD ever produced. If it were me; I'd be thanking that dude for rejecting your high offer which led to your blue 3 purchase...Send that fella a Christmas card this Christmas with a picture of your blue 3 and tell him Thank You... ;D Semper Fi My Friend  :2vrolijk_21:

Blaine~~~ ".....George my friend...Dude!...Sounds like to me that YOU are the one who IS the LUCKY one. Blaine you clean up real well.....now we just need a photo of you with them new BARS!!!!!   :bananarock:

George........Blaine...is on to something here.....personally I believe too many times we are "motivated" by the fear of loss rather than the acquistion of gain.....as it turns out in this situation  both parties got what "they" both desired.....Mr. Scobarr44 purchased a fine machine and has become a new member here.....and will hopefully stick around and you, yes, you George....found and purchased the more "difficult" to find FXR3 Blue Flame, which I agree you were quite fortunate to find so close to you.......and if it's the $$$$$ you spent on the bike that you feel was too much.....it's all realitive....at the peek these bikes were going for $21,000 in some cases....everyone always likes to pay the least for a bike, it's a nice "bragging" element......but the reality is if it's fair to both parties then a deal is struck as both parties agree.  I would rather spend more time enjoying the ride.....

The way I see it.....it's time to start riding and if the values are in a downward role.....lol when the one I own wears out....I will find another "stationary" piece of art in someone else's garage for less money.....lol....I am just hopin they're keepin it properly washed for me....until I find it.....and for gosh sakes if they are in the north....hopefully a heated garage....now is that too much to ask for????     :nixweiss:

Ahhhh George now I remember this is the bike you originally were talking to us all about....the Red FXR2 which you were trying to negotiate on and figure out value for.....seems like a year has gone by and it's only been what perhaps 3 weeks.....but hey if you had wanted that one you would have went from that one to another Red FXR2 but you moved on to the Blue FXR3......

Regards,

Tim

Greetings to All!

To clarify, I bought a 'choice' Arresting Red 1999 FXR2 for $10,600, with just under 2200 mi. and with several goodies thrown in.  My 5th Harley, but my first FXR.  I shopped for a long time and found several red '2's which were priced within a small asking price band between $12.5k and $14k.  Also, it seemed that most of these had been for sale for quite a while, so, in my case, the seller was motivated to deal.  Since he was 400 miles away, I didn't hold a gun on him or anything, we just talked, shared pictures (and Harley stories), and made creative offers and counter-offers until we were both happy.

I have several pictures and, since I am new to this forum action, as soon as I figure out how to post them, I'll reveal the machine to all.  To give an indication about my pleasure with the 'hot rod' FXR2, I've already logged 25% more miles on it in the week I've had it than were put on it in the last 10 years! (and it had a flat front tire for a couple of days!)  That's one thing I'll probably change very soon, is both tires.  Although they look OK, I'm a bit concerned about riding around alot on 10 year old tires.

I'll keep all informed.

Speaking of tires, I really like Avon Venom (front and rear).  Any comments or opinions on what is a good tire for an FXR2?

1999 FXR2

For The Front:

Stock what the bike came with:
21” Front Dunlup D402 MH90-21  54H  BW
Dunlop Part # 3017-63
Drag Specialties Item # 3017-63  MH90-21 BLK   $124.95
Diameter (Height)  691 mm = 27.20 inches or just over 27 3/16”
Width 82.5 mm = 3.25 inches

After I removed the "stock" 21" tire I ran this Metzler until I changed my wheel to a 19":

21” Front Metzler ME 880 Marathon 90/90-21 M/C 54H    PSI 38 lbs           40-42
No Drag Specialties Item #0305-0011 $124.95
Diameter (Height) 700 mm = 27.559055 inches or just under 27 9/16”  + 3/8” Dunlop 21”
Width 92 mm = 3.6220472 inches or just slightly less than 3 5/8”        + 3/8” Dunlop 21”

FOR THE REAR:
THIS IS THE STOCK/OEM TIRE THAT COMES ON OUR FXR2'S, FXR3's and FXR4's For The Rear:

Dunlop 401  130/90B16

Overall Diameter Height:
25.40"    645.000mm

Overall Width:
5.18"     131.572mm

===============================================

Metzler 130/90HB-16

Overall Diameter Height:
25.43307”  25 7/16”    646mm

Overall Width:
 5.3937007” 5 3/8”     137.mm

Metzler 150/80HB16

Overall Diameter Height:
 25.98"     659.892mm

Overall Width:
6.02"       152.908mm

Dunlop 402  MU85B16

Overall Diameter Height:
 25.71"      653.034mm

Overall Width:
  5.51"       139.954mm

Avon  Venom AM 42
150/806-16

Overall Diameter Height:
25.20        640.080mm

Overall Width:
6.20"         157.480mm

THIS IS THE CURRENT TIRE I AM RUNNING For The Rear:
Metzler 130/90HB-16
Overall Diameter Height:
25.43307”  25 7/16”    646mm

Overall Width:
 5.3937007” 5 3/8”     137.mm

So the tire width I am running is 137.000mm + 7mm = 144mm wide maximum for the way my bike is running which would mean that the following tire could also be run:

Dunlop 402  MU85B16

Overall Diameter Height:
 25.71"      653.034mm

Overall Width:
  5.51"       139.954mm

The photo below shows the current tire being run Metzler 130/90HB-16.
Currently on my 1999 FXR2, the actual distance between the two yellow arrows in the photo below is 3.5mm before I begin touching that "thin mud flap" that protects the side of the tire from rubbing the side of the rear wheel sprocket edge....which means I have another 3.5mm on the other side providing me with a maximum of 7mm additional tire room.....Just to be clear I did measurement of the distance between the yellow arrows while my tires were on the ground fully...that's probably an important measurement to make sure one's tires are on the ground when measuring the space between the edge of the rear sprocket and the side wall of the tire.  I simply raised the tire up to be able to take an easier photo.

Howie seems to have a feeling about a particular tire he likes....but I have no experience with it.....it seems to me that we have 3-5 or so selections to draw from......I am excited to read what other's feel about tires as well....

Regards,

Tim

Thanks so much Tim! Appreciate the kind comments on the PS! :2vrolijk_21:

Yes Tim, ME stands for Metzler. I was looking for a better handling tire than the Dunlops for my Dyna years ago. Tried a few until on stumbled on the Lasertech (used to go by the name Laser only). This is kinda an oddball tire. No matching rear that I know of. ME would recommend various model rears to use with it. But it made the bike handle like never before. The one on my PS is made in Germany, not Brazil. Since I tried it on my Dyna, I've never used anything else on the front of a street bike (except when I had a blowout on my WG and could only get an oversized Avon for the front). I use one size over stock in both 19 and 21. The bike handles GREAT with this front tire matched with a good rear tire. I use an ME1 rear on the Pro Street with it. Wish they made one for the SERK! :2vrolijk_21:

Thought I should update this. Metzler does make matching Lasertech rear tires now. Not available in oddball or many oversizes. But it does come in a standard HD rear size, 130/90-16 in an H and V speed rating. Just ordered one for the WG to match the front on that bike! These are great handling tires. You FXR guys should give em a shot sometime! :2vrolijk_21:

Still nothing in the Pro Street's rear size. And Joy still has HD Dunlops right now, with plenty of meat front and rear. But Lasertecs are in her future too! ;)
