I am heading out for a 300 mile ride tomorrow. Will drop of the motor when it fits my schedule. Probably November.

It has not had an issue yet so there is no way I park it. And I can stop without a clutch

Recall
« Reply #46 on: October 17, 2013, 04:26:18 PM »

I just got a call from my dealer about a recall. Harley does not want us to ride our bikes until the bike is fixed. They are coming to pick up the bike at my house.

Recall Notice: 0153NANRCL:2014 TOURING HYD CLT M/CYL

http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/10/17/harley-davidson-recalls-some-14-motorcycles/

A huge recall from the Motor Company was voluntarily issued and a fleet 29,000-strong is expected to be brought in for fixing a clutch-related issue. As the recall is listed with a "Do Not Ride" tag, it is advisable that customers heed Harley-Davidson and not get on their CVO machines until the problem in detected and repaired.

Tony Wilcox, Harley-Davidson General Manager of Motorcycle New Product Delivery said that it is extremely important and "critical that (our) customers with affected vehicles contact their dealers immediately."

The hydraulic clutch system on the affected motorcycles may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch, causing the rider to have trouble slowing or stopping.

The recalls affect 25,185 Touring motorcycles, models FLHTCU, FLHTK, FLHTP, FLHX, FLHXS, FLHTKSE and FLHRSE, and 3,861 Softail® CVOs and Trikes, models FLHTCUTG, FXSBSE and FLSTNSE, built between May 3, 2013, and Oct. 14, 2013.

What I find interesting is the May build date. I'd be willing to bet my 2013 was built in the May to Oct time frame.

I thought the 2014's were started in August 2013. I have a 2014 Ultra Limited and it was built in August, It was one of the first bikes delivered to the dealership. It would be interesting to have a poll where we could check build dates, I would love to know if anyone has a pre-August new model.

All this comes at a prefect time for Biketoberfest in Daytona. Heard they are taking the demo tents down at Rossmeyers in Daytona no demo's on the 2014's

That's wild! Looks like the MoCo has its tail between its legs this time...

I heard thirdhand through the grapevine this MIGHT have something to do with the clutch reservoir by the lever allowing air into the line when the bike is leaned. I can't verify this, though... so consider it just another baseless rumor...

Anyone know if the clutch perch/master cylinder/reservoir was redesigned for the '14s? Would be an interesting coincidence...

One of my buddy's saw a guy on the side of I-75 yesterday on his new Trike. My friend was in his truck but he is an old school Harley guy and would not pass without stopping to help. They got it into neutral started it back up but it would not go into 1st gear. He stayed till the flatbed arrived. Trike had 830 miles on it. Good news he was only about 3 miles from Thunder Creek HD. Past experience tells me they won't have a tech that can repair it.

I called my dealership at about 9:00 this morning to make an appointment for the recall work and by 10:15 they were at the house picking up the bike.

Same thing I was thinking. So it may related to the heat issue or a redesign of??? :nixweiss:

Dealer came by to pick up my CVO for recall.  They also picked my '11 FLHTK, so they could do the 15k mile service.  Figure I'll get it done even though I'm seller her.  Plus, then I can ride the '11 while the CVO is in the shop. :)

Made me look....

Different part number for 14 versus 13 for the clutch master cylinder.  Difference isn't the internals though.  Both assembly part numbers still use the same 46244-01 plunger kit as the repair kit.

I wonder if the reservoir is shaped differently inside... and if that could have something to do with it.  :nixweiss:
