Softails will have the shocks in the dirt bike monoshock position, no longer under the frame.   :2vrolijk_21:

I agree with that. Wasn't certain if that was a this year change or next year.

I am hearing that the dyna is gone in 2018 and some big changes in the Softail family.... And the new motor in all big bikes ... Wait and see. .  .

I heard the same, thought it would be a drastic change to drop the Dyna. With that said the Softail line is/has been moved to MO.

The Pool Boy is similar to Carnac The Magnificent, he knows all and sees all. However, he doesn't always tell all. Once you have been introduced to him and he takes you into his inner circle, he will keep you in the loop on what Harley ( The Mother Ship ) is planning and up to. There is no rhyme or reason on who he picks to be in his inner circle. I was told to post this message by The Pool Boy.

In 2018 all tires will be filled from the factory with nitrogen; for a $39 extra service charge.

As a dealer add-on that nitrogen will be sucked out (to be re-sold later) and replaced with nitro-helium to further lighten the bike; for a further $89 extra charge (the percentage of helium will 1.903%).

Unfortunately each of these upgrades will require recalibrations ($99 service fee each time) of the TPMS because of the different properties of each gas.  Also, it will cost $149 to R&R both tires and wheels to have them rebalanced since nitrogen and helium don't mix well thus leaving a (Harley technical term) thump of helium on one side of the tire that will have to be compensated for.  Fortunately once the two gasses do mix they then tend to stay mixed.  So only one more rebalance after 20 hours of the tires being in service and mixing the gasses through rotation will be required.

These are all new model improvements for the 2018 fleet.

Also, Harley has incorporated the blinker fluid and linked ABS systems in to one ABS/Blinker Fluid regulator pump.  With this the front and rear turn signals will continue to blink evenly no matter how hard the brakes are applied. The new special Screamin' Eagle Self Cancelling Blinker Fluid will be available approximately November 2018 as a $119.95 accessory to bring the self cancelling function to the turn signals of this new and improved system (except Dyna).

Ask again in about 4 weeks and we'll have a definite answer. That's the dealer meeting.  ;D  :drink:

In days of old.....dealer meetings and new product launches were the 2nd or 3rd week of July. The launches and meetings were moved a couple of years ago to the late August timeframe similiar to the official car launches.  Who knows why.....

Like many I am hoping for a return to high class CVO paint jobs and significant improvements in quality control for items like the M8 oil pump and the water pump.

We'll see....

We already know the price willbe higher for sure maybe 3-5%

Call me old....or maybe just very happy with what I have, but this is the first year that I have no excitement over what is coming in 18. Wife and I took a ride late yesterday afternoon and was laughing about how the 18's were soon to be released and we have done nothing more than a brief walk through of the 17's while walking to parts.  Maybe her and I are both getting old.... Please don't repeat that part.... :drink:

I'm only 35, they don't excite me anymore either. i used to buy new cars and bikes every 2-3 years because I had that "newchit-itis", I won't buy a bike new ever again, I'm not taking a 40% loss just to have the latest untested prototype from the MoCo.

Four platforms. Anniversary models plus regular.
1-Touring- usual suspects w/M8
2-Softail-some names are the same, some names come from another line, frames to fit M8
3-Sportsters-same ol same ol
4-XG line- 500 for trainers/entry level, 750 street fighters.
All for now...
