Damn, I am sure glad we pulled the trigger on the 2017 CVO Limited in June instead of waiting for the new bikes!  At least now we have another 4 1/2 years to to decide our next move...

Discussing the '18 colors with a buddy...he described them as "dark," as in a mood.  I agree.  I seem to recall an article about automotive paint choices - that in a down economy, people tend to choose muted, neutral colors.  In an up economy, bright colors.  Seems HD has this backwards...I thought the economy was improving.

Ok, looked these over last night during the launch.  I formed an opinion first impression type deal but decided to sleep on it a bit and revisit this morning over the coffee.

The Fat Bob looks like something from Mad Max (which may appeal to the younger, not currently purchasing HD's, crowd) but it looks weird in a Diaval/MGX-21/prototype vein.

The Street Bob, Low Rider, Slim, Deluxe and Heritage Classic do not have the adjustable shock knob in the same location as the Fat Bob, Breakout and Fat Boy.  Where it B?  By the way, the oil tanks on the "softails" are fake now...just for looks.

The Fat Boy in either 107 or 114 looks very different from the front with the new headlight but something I can get used to....just different

Why does the MoCo consider hot rod looks to coincide with blacked out?  The RK, Street Glide and Road Glide specials have some interesting colors but only with blacked out mufflers and motors.  Looks OK but not all enjoy the blacked out looks and may want this bike but don't want to spend the extra to change it all to chrome?

Why can't they offer some better stock paint jobs on the Freewheeler.  Pretty much always been black, red or blue since they were introduced.

Some of y'all like the denim/flat paint but I'm not a fan.  Chrome and shiny paint here.  At least they finally ran out of smurf sprinkles for the hard candy look.... ;D

The 115 anni bikes.  The anni Street Glide with that dang logo on the front faring looks like poo...not digging it at all.  The anni CVO Limited looks good to me and the best color of any of the CVO's for 2018.  I do like the red fade on the CVO limited but not at $43,000...sorry, $42,949.... >:(

I was hoping that they would do something with the Sportster line to upgrade the EVO based motor dating 1986 to something more modern however they keep on ticking so I guess why upset the apple cart.  I'm betting at some point the MoCo really wants to move everyone from a Sportster to the new Street.... :nixweiss:

Overall, the new frame for the "soft-dyna-tails" or "dynatails" looks interesting and a good effort for those models.  Time will tell how the monoshock works for those models.  Good power options in the 114 for some and the 117 for the CVO's which will be good, stock power for those that don't want to go the pipes/heads/cams/tune route on an already way overpriced scooter.  Colors are not the best this year and the only changes to the CVO are wireless headsets that, obviously, cost about $2,000 based on the price increase.

No disappointment here as I knew coming into it that there was nothing they introduced would make me trade in 2018....still love my 2015.  However, there were some interesting developments for 2018.  I will say that whomever is choosing the colors needs to be replaced before they start working on the 2019's.... :2vrolijk_21:

I guess Im in the minority. I was thinking I screwed up buying the 2017 CVO Streetglide. The 2018 Streetglide and Roadglide look to be a "Better" Orange than mine, And the 2018 CVO Streetglide comes with the 117" and 6 speakers.

I know the feeling. Our 17' CVO's are barely a step up from the 18' SGS models, seriously. Do the 18' SGS models come with LED blinkers now as well?

Bet they look better in person, they always seem to. Some of these at first glance are as ugly as a bowling shoe.

I think you are probably right, the depth of the paint will probably stand out but the designs sure are subdued. Maybe it will grow on us... but there's just not enough there (paint or otherwise) for me to remotely consider trading in a two year old bike I paid $40K for that I have 20,000 miles on. I'll put another 10K on the odometer this year and we'll talk about it next August. ;)

I like the blue CVO limited.
Im kind of surprised, I am in the minority.  I like the new colors.
I liked the blacked out look on the red CVO limited.  I think its going to look great in person.

What I can't get past is the street glide is a stripped down limited low.  More money for less.
Most buy the street glide and add a tourpak anyway.

Here is a real "new bike" they would sell the crap out of... a limited with a quick detach tour pak and the stretched bags and stretched rear fender with suspension that was adjustable with a push of a button.

The biggest problem I have is the new bold price tag.
Wanna know how to end up with $25000 the easy way....... buy one of these at $45k, dump another $3k into it and wait 2 years.

Add tax/license and a few other doohickeys and you have a $50K motorcycle.

I purchased a used (slightly) 2016 340i Xdrive this past January and got out the door for less money than the MSRP on the new CVO Limited and got a CPO designation for extra warranty.

However, it did not come with a wireless headset..... :huepfenlol2:

That's why I'm adding another coat of wax to my old trusty 06 hand built CVO Ultra, and putting the money aside for my dream car, 2017 Shelby!

Yeah, I can remember when I began posting here in 2007 that there was already nostalgia for some of the "older" CVO models. Seemed a little odd but very similar to new model year discussions on cars/trucks. I really liked my new 2007.  At first. Then $hit happened.  I was in your mode "wait & see what the next year brings" for 2 years before the 2017s.  2015 looked semi-seriously.  I was on a 2010, by then (5 years) the improvements were numerous.

Other than the M8 & suspension, the changes for 2017 were mostly small. One of the little changes I have liked best is the singe key fob.  The old double fobs were a real PITA.  The lids open/close a lot better, like that a lot compared to the older bags.

Will not be running to the dealer to scope these out.  In a few years will be more interested, am still enjoying the new of my 17.  The Rushmore bikes had a rough start, but looking at trade in & resale values it appears HD made some major improvements starting in 2014, according to the sales market.

Washed the bike this morning.  Really like the way it looks in the sun when it has a good coat of wax.

I agree. For me I like the new color choices. My 13 has great paint however I would not mind having something a little more subtle paint wise
