Mid West trip
« on: May 15, 2005, 11:33:33 AM »

My wife and I are leaving June 18th for a two week trip to CO, WY, MT and SD.  I'm looking for some good motorcycle roads in northern Colorado.  Any ideas?

Since no one replying to your post Tom, I will. Looks like I'am going to be two week behind you again with this trip. You know how to find those roads your looking for, yellow line in your HD handbook.Rockys in CO, Yellowstone in WY, Glacier Park in MT and Black Hills in SD. Leave your trailer and car at the Dealer or the Airport in North Platte, Neb. And do the big circle to those sites. Looks like the 13 people who live out there all have hidden e-mail address and only have a few post each if any at all....I know you wouldn't mind are company but, the wife couldn't get the time off since her shut down is the first two week of july. Now me I still have 3 weeks left plus one shut down week in july. JOHN

John, I had to change the dates.  We're leaving Augusta (on the bike) July 9th and planning on being back July 24th.  What are the exact dates that you will be there?  We plan to be in Estees Park, CO July 11th.  Ride northern Colorodo for three days then to WY, MT, SD.  Then head home.  Maybe we could have our own Mid-West Gathering! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

One more thing, I just got back from Maggie Valley. Your buddy at Salty Dogs said hello! [smiley=drink.gif]

That great news. Head is spinning right know with ideals. Like meet at tHunDer place and ride the flat lands to CO together and then hang out for a while out west then get my wife back to buffalo by the 18. Let me start with seeing when she coming home. Haven't called since they ordered the painted parts. So I don't know if there a wait for them or not. Was holding off calling because what ever it is , it is. Didn't want to be disapointed if it was a long wait. Get up ever morning thinking todays the day there going to call.

We're going in Aug. 04HD and probably will travel some of the same trails. Touching base w/ the tail end of Sturgis and then for sure we're doing the Colorado rockies and the tetons. Tempted by Baniff but we'll probably stay south of the border. Our hope is to have lot's of "must sees" and then wing it by following the sun.  [smiley=sunny.gif]

Well made that call today and I'am disapointed. Waiting for the paint. 6 to 8 for them....Painted the whole inside so far, guess I'll start riping the carpart out and put down hardwood floor around here. She getting a lot out of me. Told her when she's back I'am gone with or without her. It looks like without her.

Tom,
Called today and all the paint is in except the saddlebag. Also ordered a second bike today FLHRCI, Silver Pearl 06. Says it will be in August. Is it best to put the Rineharts on right from the get go or is it best to break it in first... I'll call agian next Tuesday the 5 th to see were they are the Eagle.

Congratulations Lugnut with the new bike ordered.  Sorry it has taken this long to get all the painted parts in for your eagle.   [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

Lugnut.....I like to put the first 500 on before going with the initial Stage 1 and Rineharts as you'll need to hit the dyno as quickly as possible after making the changes.  The bike will be running veeery lean when you make the changes.  I just don't like  to stress the new engine that much with the red line runs right out of the box.

BLM, I used to be cognizant of the same thing.  Was actually somewhat careful during the first several miles of not holding sustained high RPM or pushing the redline.  Then we did the tour at York.

One of the last things they do before putting the bikes in a crate is hook them to a dyno and run them.  I mean run them.  All the way to redline.  Suddenly.  Held there a bit.  The guy described it as "we want it to break here if it's going to break."  Made me much less concerned about normal driving styles during the first several hundred miles.

It's the end of the first full day of our mid west trip.  We left after work late Friday afternoon and made it to Chattanoga, TN that night.  It was a great ride except for a large traffic back up north of Atlanta on I-75 due to an accident.

Today we stopped just west of St.  Louis, MO.  Another great day of riding!  No rain, but VERY HOT!

Planning on getting an early start tomorrow and try to beat the heat.  Will probably stop for the day somewhere west of Salina, KS.

Post more later.  It's time for a cold one! [smiley=drink.gif]

04 it sounds like you're enjoying that ride......I know that I really love the long hauls.  Be sure to start drinking the Gatorade early in the mornings, to keep the electrolytes up.....don't want any heat stroke going on.
