I shipped my seat 7700 miles for this mod
« on: March 05, 2012, 06:29:26 PM »

I posted this on another forum and some might find it useful here as well.

I shipped a new seat to Mean City Cycles and it was worth every penny. Thanks MCC and Allen.

Last summer I bought a 2012 CVO RG. I really love the bike but the stock solo seat was just too wide and therefore I was on my toes when seated. I really didnt feel comfortable or confident with slow parking lot type maneuvers etc as I didnt have the footing to push the bike around.

After reading the great reviews on line about MCC, I contacted Allen and discussed modifying the stock solo seat. He indicated that the stock solo wouldnt be suitable for the mods required to get me flat footed. His suggestion was to order a new HD seat and have it modded. He recommended a stock HD seat from the 2011/2012 Road Glide/Street Glide HD part # 52320-11.

I went with his suggestion and ordered it discounted from Lake Shore HD and had it shipped to the WA / CDN border. It was $180.00 shipped.

I picked it up, measured it up on the bike, called Allen and he recommended the Super Narrow Mod with memory foam. This would narrow the nose, bring me forward a bit and lower the seat height. I also had him slightly shave down the passenger portion toward the rear fender.

I then shipped the seat from WA to MCC in North Carolina. They modified the seat and returned shipped for $175.00

My total cost $355.00 and 7700 miles. I got it back Saturday and am extremely happy. I am now flat footed on the bike. The memory foam is super comfortable. I cant wait to get some miles on it. FYI I am 5'6"

Thanks Allen and MCC

Sorry about the long post. Here are some pics. I'll take better ones on a brighter day.

Was there any reason why you didn't go with the Harley Reach seat?  If it wouldn't fit your mc maybe they could have modified it.  I have a 2012 SESG and I took the reach seat that pushes you forward 3" and had that modified with a polyurethane pad inserted and the sides narrowed.  I also had it wrapped in buffalo hide.  Only a suggestion because the reach seat already had 50% of the mods you added to your stock seat.  I'm am also 5'6"

I did try a reach seat on it at the HD dealer before I went this route. The reach seat did drop me down but I found it did cramp me slightly. It might have been okay but I didnt want to take a chance long term.

On the 2011/2012 Road Glide/Street Glide I liked the option I did where I was able to slightly shave down the passenger seat tapering it a little more to the rear fender. Also I was able to have the nose of the seat modded a little narrower than the reach.

Thank you. I know you enjoy your SESG as much as I do my RG. The Street Glides are killer   :2vrolijk_21:

Sounds like that might be just the mod my wife is looking for with her stock street glide seat, she does not want to go forward just narrower.

Yes the Super Narrow seat modification would certainly work for her. I would give Allen a call at MCC to discuss. He is very accommodating. This mod works well on the stock 2011 and 2012 RG and SG seats.

Have you sat on a non-cvo road glide or street glide? Harley changed this seat in 2011 and after. I put one on my 2009 street glide about a month ago. It's narrower, especially in front, about an inch lower than the pre-2011. Fell in love with my SG all over again with that new seat.  Paid $165 plus shipping through zanotti Harley in PA.  Would be a shame if cvo seat does not work, so nice looking... Gotta get the feet down though, good luck!

X2!!  And now you have the option of the rider's backrest :2vrolijk_21:  I may switch mine out for touring.  Enjoy your bikes!

The reach seat put my "nads"  in one helluva bind.. I rode the bike 12-15 miles & sold the seat..I'd rather be on my toes than speaking in high notes for a week!

Thank you.  I just sent Allen an e-mail asking a few questions about this modification for my wife's street glide seat.
