Replacing battery on 2005 CVO Electra Glide
« on: May 12, 2015, 06:09:09 PM »

Hi All,
I need a bit of help as my battery has pack in, I have bought a new one and am ready to fit however I have a question as to how I can shut down the alarm on the bike before I disconnect the old battery? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for that FlaHeatWave,
I thought that there was a need to isolate the alarm as I really do not want to wake up the street when disconnecting the old battery.

As long as you deactivated the alarm with the pushbutton fob first, you don't need to worry about doing anything else special.  What you have heard and read concerning a special procedure only applies to the 2007 and later bikes that have a different type of security system that arms automatically.  On those you have to have the fob nearby, turn on the ignition, then remove the Maxi fuse or the negative battery cable.  Once they turn on the ignition the security system automatically disarms as long as the fob is present.
