Battery replacement
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:02:18 PM »

I have a 2007 FXSTSSE that needs a new battery.  When disconnecting the negative lead my alarm sounds.  How do I disable the alarm to change the battery?  I tried following the Disable Alarm section in my owner's manual but that process is for leaving the ignition in the ON position and appears to be for operating the m/c when the key fob is not present.  Is there a certain process to follow for battery replacement?

Quickly, with ear plugs!   :orange: :huepfenjump3: :mango: :bananarock:

Seriously, good question. I did the above.

I am just about ready to replace the battery in my 2007 FXSTSSE.  I would love to hear a good answer on this subject.  What battery did you buy as a replacement?

Learned the hard way also! Turn the ignition on and have the kill switch on and remove terminals from battery.

Yup, it really is that simple.  Have the security fob with you, turn the ignition switch to the "On" position.  At this point, the security system is disarmed and won't set off the alarm when you remove the battery cables.

I believe that you need to have the fob nearby, turn on the ignition and then proceed to disconnet the battery.  I don't remember if you need to have the ignition on when you hook up the new battery, but I guess it won't hurt to have it on just in case.

Thanks “thatguycvo” and “grc”, I'll try your suggestions today or tomorrow.  Going to Batteries Plus to look at their USA made battery today, it's half the price of H-D battery with a better warranty.  Will let you know of success with replacement.

Interstate makes a nice new line of AGM batteries for Harleys that have a little more CA and are much cheaper as well.

Appreciate the heads-up.  I'll take a look at them also for comparison.

My best advice is that you do it with a set of shooting ear protection on.  I had mine go off in a small storage unit and it was brutally loud.
