That is awesome, what an experience that must have been. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Did you realize at that time how big this event was, or was it just another outing for the family?

I don't think Tim & I knew when we left home what we were in for, but check out the Tye-Dye we did ourselves. We were obviously plugged in and tuned out at a pretty early age. While that is not our bus, we did spend the next few years living on our own (Wonderbread) going from concert to concert. Man when the cops arrested the entire concert in 70, ZZ Top had nowhere to go but keep on rocking, Man I gotta shut this music off

Jamie, [highlight]would that by chance be a Schlitz beer can your dad is holding[/highlight]? Man, I haven't seen them since I moved to Memphis! I remember the famous slogan "The beer that made Milwaukee famous"! And that's not a good thing to be famous for!

JR

JR,

Good eye my friend...that brings back memories...First beer I ever tried was a Falstaff, then Schlitz.

mmmmmmmmm....being listening to Hendrix all day...just sent the link to my son who has only seen the 15 minute version...he's a big Hendrix fan too.

Yep it is. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] I noticed that also, and it brought back memories. Do you remember "Black Label" beer? Those two were one of the first to brews I ever drank, back when I was a young teen and the Alcohol Beverage Control wasn't as strict as it is now.

That sounds like it was a fun trip. ;) I wouldn't say you are a disappointment at all. Like many of us that grew up in that era we turned out all right. We grew up to be doctors, lawyers, police, firefighters :o, politicians,  and career soldiers ;). So you see we are just your average upstanding guy/gal next-door citizens. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Jock, FALSTAFF? LOL That's right there with Schlitz and have you ever tried Hamms beer? My Buddy's dad use to be a Falstaff man, " Give that man a Falstaff beer" (Harry Cary). ;D Being Cub fans I remember my dad having some Hamms in the fridge. [smiley=nervous.gif] Always had Hamms commercials during cub games. I believe the jingle went...From the land of sky blue waters.... dang, can't remember the rest. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Jock, FALSTAFF? LOL That's right there with Schlitz and [highlight]have you ever tried Hamms beer?[/highlight] My Buddy's dad use to be a Falstaff man, " Give that man a Falstaff beer" (Harry Cary). ;D Being Cub fans I remember my dad having some Hamms in the fridge. [smiley=nervous.gif] Always had Hamms commercials during cub games. I believe the jingle went...From the land of sky blue waters.... dang, can't remember the rest.

Yes I have years ago....The Hendrix Days are bringing back more memories that THANK GOD are way behind me...

And it only gets worse. . .

Jamie, would that by chance be a [highlight]Schlitz beer [/highlight]can your dad is holding? Man, I haven't seen them since I moved to Memphis! I remember the famous slogan "The beer that made Milwaukee famous"! And that's not a good thing to be famous for! ;D ;D ;D

My father gave me "The rest of the story" about how Schlitz got it's name. He claimed it was my uncle and him who named the beer. He told me that my uncle and he were at a neighborhood tavern and were enjoying a few frosties when they were approached by a stranger that walked in and asked them if they would mind trying a new beer they were putting out on the market as soon as they find the perfect name for it. Dad told him to get lost, they weren't interested in his beer. The little man was persistent and added he would give them a couple bucks a piece. Dad said that could buy alot of beers back then, so they took the money in advance and proceeded to taste this new beer. Now my Uncle reminds me of Norm in Cheers. He pounded down several beers and my dad was trying to keep up. He said all at once they both looked at each other and simultaneously cried out " This beer task like Schlitz"! Now understand, they been there all afternoon. The little man's eyes lite up and he became very excited and dropped $5 dollars on the bar and ran out. A few weeks go by and they were in that same neighborhood tavern and saw on TV this new beer commercial introducing.....You got it... Schlitz beer. And now you know "The rest of the story"!!!! :o

d00d mentioned the Black Label... that is still sold in Canada, at least in Western CA and before the micro brew revolution that was what I drank. Mrs. We just reminded me of another favorite from my yute. I introduced her to it on our honeymoon - Cincinnati's finest, Little Kings Cream Ale  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

(Larry the Cable Guy voice) Oh yeah, that was rite nice inbetween innings at a softball game. Didn't have to hear no chit from some sombitch about me havin' a cool one cause you could suck em down so fast. Like I didn't have nothing better to do at the church social.          Thanks so much for the link. It was like taking a trip back in time. I heard about Woodstock in the month leading up to it, but at 15 I wasn't enough of a rebel to take off without Mom and Dad approving. Wish I had. Doing that would have been pretty tame compared to some of the stuff I did in later years. Anyway, watching the video took me on a cool trip back to those days. Even with Nam and everything those years seem so much simpler than today.
